The State was at one time part of the Memphis Tennessee Malco Theatre circuit and according to one source, had a seating capacity of over 2,000. The State was in operation between 1930 and 1950 and later razed.
Opened in 1997 and probably has the same seating capacity of any of the other 24 screen megaplexs AMC debuted during the close of the twentieth century.
Do you have a street address for the Capri? The only Martin operation I have been able to locate so far in Hamblen County was the Princess on First Street in Morristown.
Can’t speak for the bus station, but quite a few of the Loews theatres built in the urban areas during the 1970s-80s were underground and/or anchored to parking lots.
J. Tanner: Thanks and will do! I attended some of the AGO meetings while residing in Atlanta but was never able to hook up with the ATOS. What ever became of the former WSB radio broadcaster who played the organ at the Fox, or of Jay (I can’t recall his last name) who was the organist at the pizza parlor over on Franklin Road? Is Joe Patten still with us?
The Perimeter Pointe opened sometime in 1998 and was part of the United Artist circuit. I think Regal remodeled the multiplex and installed the stadium seating when it acquired the lease sometime during the early twenty-first century.
The Metropolitan must have been long gone before 1960. I wasn’t aware there ever existed another theatre of this size in the Atlanta area other than the Fox, Rialto, Erlanger, Loews or the Paramount. Any idea as to its exact location, when it was closed/demolished and what ever became of the organ?
Tried and did not succeed in that I have too little information as to where it was located. The only locating information I have to date is that it was located somewhere on Canton Highway.
Here are photos from July 2007 of the former cinema. The stucco façade was not part of the original design and added on sometime during the nineteen eighties:1, 2, 3, 4
The Barrett Commons opened around 1999 and seats approximately 6,000, more than two-thirds than the AMCs previous multiplex in the area, the Cobb Place. Here are photos of the Barrett from July 2007: 1 and 2.
This theatre is already listed in Cinema Treasures as the Malco.

The cinema in this photo was not the 10th Street Art, but rather a strictly porno venue set up in what was previously a storefront retail space.
