I know, Lost Memory. It still bugs me, especially because I walked by the Madison every day around the time it must have closed, yet either never noticed nor remembered when it showed its last movie.
Hi, Maryellen, I don’t remember the Streib family, because I didn’t live in Woodhaven, although my dad’s parents and sister did.
I think the first film I saw at the Haven was “M.A.S.H” in February 1971, and the last, “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest”, in July 1976, with others, like the double feature of “Forty Carats” and “The Conversation” in late August 1974 somewhere in between.
Rather than “Poseidon Adventure”, the Irwin Allen disaster film I saw at the Haven was “Towering Inferno” in late August or early September 1975.
So, the transfer of movies showing in cinemas, to DVD, is now so rapid, that it doesn’t even allow time for pirated DVD’s to be sold on the streets ?
I mean those DVD’s resulting from someone going into a theatre, illegally camcording a movie, then illegally transferring it to DVD, burning copies, then selling them on the street, even though the sound is often not that great, is full of echoes, and the screen image may be blocked by someone’s head in front of the camcorded.
Panzer65, what image are you looking at ? I can’t see Warren’s photobucket images; they’re blocked by my PC for some reason.
You’re welcome, East Coast Rocker and Warren.
It refers to your PC keyboard, Warren. Hold down the “ALT” key, then hit the “F” key.
woodie, what month and year would that have been ?
Thanks, Lost Memory. Warren, we shall see.
Noted, Panzer65. No apology needed, merely a correction.
Thanks, Bway.
Thanks, mp775.
What does this have to do with Loew’s Pitkin Theatre ?
I will consider Halloween 1977 to be the closing date of the RKO Madison Theatre, until I read a clear and convincing proof otherwise.
Thanks for all the details, Warren. It reads more like a Renaissance palazzo in Italy than it does a theatre in Ridgewood, Queens, NYC.
I wonder where all that marble went, and how much money was paid for it.
Thanks, Lost Memory. I will.
Hopefully, George, but who ? THAT’S the $ 64 million dollar question.
I add my condolences to yours, BrooklynJim.
Welcome, patschaefer ! You might enjoy Bushwick Buddies at :

I remember Ridgewood Terrace Chinese Restaurant next door to the RKO Madison Theatre.
Warren, the last time I dialed (718) 821 5993, a minute ago, I got a recorded message saying that the number was out of service.
Thanks, Maryellen and George Tobor.
You and me both, Maryellen. How old were you when you saw “Towering Inferno” at the Haven ? I was 19 going on 20.

Thanks for relating the info and your experience, East Coast Rocker. I’ve never purchased nor seen those bootleg DVD’s, only heard or read about them.
This all has a vaguely familiar ring to it.

Thanks, Ed Solero. Did the clipping say what movie(s) were playing at the Madison on January 25, 1978 ?

I’m glad to read that, Panzer65. I just posted about another “Panzer” on the RKO Bushwick page # 1322.
Thanks for the info on Zacherle, George Tobor.
Thanks, Panzer65.
BTW, check out the RKO Bushwick Theatre page # 1322.
I think you’ve been accused of being both me, and a crypto-Nazi.
Panzer65, that would have been WXRK, 92.3 FM, right ?
