Well, in 1956 the MIDWAY wasn’t playing trash. It had a good standing as a theatre that booked movies the locals liked. Westerns are a big pull in that region. It parked 200 cars and in the late 50’s it was owned by J.N. Wallace.
See Pal Theatre {Wadley,Ga.} for more info. PAl theatres were run by President of the chain,M.F.Brice with General Manager Pete Brice. Pete Brice served as Booker in this family run theatre chain in small South Georgia towns. Pal THEATRES also operated a few Drive-ins in these small towns.
PAL AMUSEMENTS was located in Vidalia,Georgia known for its onions, not theatres but was the home office to Abbeville,Glenville,Hinesville,Louisville,Lyons,Millen,Mt.Vernon, Soperton,Vidalia and Wadley Georgia.
All very small towns mainly in the South Georgia Area . Below Augusta and Macon on the fall line.
Sept. 2, 2006 Now showing “BARNYARD: THE ORIGINAL PARTY ANIMALS” is the first feature for the Kids. Also “TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY”. and a third late feature “WORLD TRADE CENTER”.
Each Ed was a daily gross, but like i was telling CHuck 1231 it might include Concessions Too. Were not separated in the old Ledger. I am waiting for Bill Barkley to let me know about CAT BALLOU and SHIP OF FOOLS. I never heard of the Collector. He ran movies there from the middle 60’s to closing.
Chuck, the old Ledger does not have Box office and Concession separate,so it could be Box and Concession together. They certainly must not have had Box office reports in those days. But when i was business our B.O.R’s were separate from the concession. In 1944-45 Ihave no idea. Each number you see like for “DAYS OF GLORY” is not a weekly gross but that days take. What were tickets then 30 or 40 cents a piece.
Reminds me of the COMMERCE drive-in in Commerce, Georgia it is on CT go read about that TRIPLE or the FUN-LAND in Tampa it is on CT. How can you watch a flick when you can SEE the other screen. Well, they are called “PASSION PITS”.
IN 1944 the DREAMLAND was playing “CLAUDIA” and it took in $88.15
“CLANCEY STREET BOYS” MAKES $173.45
“RETURN OF RANGERS” makes $175.00
“WHISTLING IN DIXIE” does $110.10

Got a CT guy from ATlanta on and found out he never got around to snapping a picture of NORTHEAST EXPRESS DRIVE-IN in Atlanta.Driving home to Augusta I stopped off 1-85 and took several pictures Cliff never thought to do it,but I was able to mail him copies. I will try and locate the picture,I have hundreds of pictures, mainly in the South.
Thanks Micah enjoyed that theatre and the old downtown theatre that was a MCDONALDS.I snapped several pictures, never saw anything like it.I know it is listed on CT.
Yep, it parked 200 cars in 1956 and was owned by Barron Drotz.
Very small drive-in parking only 125 cars in 1956. It was owned by C.Few.

Ken, My 1956 Motion picture Almanac has 638 cars and still owned by Avro. I have heard from others often Drive-ins give different numbers on cars.
I know it would impossible to have a top ten DRIVE-INS,but if it were THE FOUNTAIN VALLEY would have to place somewhere in those numbers.
It was a rather large Drive-in parking 850 cars and the SOUTH GATE DRIVE-In was owned by ALADDIN DRIVE-IN THEATRE INC. All this in 1956.
