The South Gate Drive-In was opened on March 14, 1950. It was located off Firestone Boulevard at Firestone Place, and was operated by Berman Theatres, followed by Alladin Theatres and from 1956 by Pacific Theatres. It was closed in 1979 screening regular movies. From November 4, 1979 it went over to screening Spanish language movies.

If you enter the address on this site, you can see the drive-in back in 1972 and the 1950s. It was set back from Firestone Boulevard, as I suspected.

It was a rather large Drive-in parking 850 cars and the SOUTH GATE DRIVE-In was owned by ALADDIN DRIVE-IN THEATRE INC. All this in 1956.
Nice photo of the screen tower ken mc.
I graduated from South Gate High in 1954. I took my girlfriend to the drive in in 1952, in my 1938 Chey coupe. I only went there a few times because she became an usher at the Vogue, and I was always let in for free when she was working. Fond memories of South Gate. I new was torn down in the 80’s, but I don’t remember what year.
Closed in 1979.
Tiny grand opening ad posted.
Started its Spanish-language policy on November 4th, 1979. Grand opening ad posted.
A closer address is 5039 Firestone Pl, South Gate, CA.
The drive-in was never connected to Firestone Blvd, but rather Firestone Place which ran just north of the boulevard.
The drive-in remained intact through 1993, but was completely demolished and replaced by MAERSK SK trucking company which currently sits on the property along with a large parking lot and other businesses. There is no trace of the drive-in remaining.
