Great picture Robin. Did you get any on the inside. We played “PORKY’S” at the triple here.Did great summer business. But i didn’t think it was that great.
Well,I give up trying to get Barry on. He did pass on this story for CT readers. “One afternoon i was standing in the lobby and noticed a rather tall fellow. He caught my attention and as i looked harder it was the actor GEORGE KENNEDY who was standing in line to see a movie.Well, i had my doorman walk out and bring him to a side door. He told me he came to see a friend’s new movie.Well, it turned out CLINT EASTWOOD was his friend and he came to see "SUDDEN IMPACT” No charge enjoy the show.On the way out Mr.Kennedy autographed a “SUDDEN IMPACT” one sheet writing “LOVED THE MOVIE CLINT, GEORGE KENNEDY” Barry treasures that one sheet.
I worked for ABC THEATRES in Augusta, and got to know a manager in that town and he put me and another ABC THEATRE employee up for a couple of days to save on Hotel rates.
Ed, I was able to get Robin, A former Assistant at NATIONAL HILLS and the IMPERIAL to get pictures of the theatres. I gave her some pictures of NATIONAL HILLS when it was getting torn down, also pictures of the WEIS DRIVE in,HILLTOP DRIVE IN, DANIEL VILLAGE,COLUMBIA 1and 2,plus movie ads. She has them on or NATIONAL HILLS site on CT.or they might be on COLUMBIA SQUARE CINEMAS.
ED, I have been meaning to get on the Archives here with the paper and track, down quite a few movies i worked At Columbia 1 and 2,but was also going to go on my sister Theatres here; National Hills and the Imperial and look for certain films> I will try and look for you.
Last time I drove the Pal it was closed and i figured it would never reopen. In Louisville,Ga. there is a PAL theatre there that the last time I got that way was serving a meal and a movie.
Those jackets looked good too,you would be amazed at how many girls one could pick up. They would see the ABC logo and think TV even though it has THEATRE underneath,Of course us old theatre dawgs would never correct them. The jacket i own comes from Jim Neely via the IMPERIAL.
Pictures looked good.It was the best of times.it was the worst of times walking up to a theatre that i had so many great friendships.Don’t think it would have happen had i worked at a burger joint. Not that I ever would! I was going to work in a theatre, when going to the movies use to be special like traveling in a jet,one would get dressed up. Today Jet flying is akin to a bus stop. Glad i got in when I did. We got in on the tail end of the theatre business meaning SHOWMANSHIP.
TLSLOEWS.I loved the movie that much, heck i even cassette taped BUTCH CASSIDY,but it was taped inside the theatre before I worked there. So it did not sound as good as taping it from the projector.
I wouldn’t think they would need cue marks, but that story was true.I think after that they put a 5 gallon plaster bucket in the booth. The life of a Projectionist!
Ray, it was great talking with you about the SOUTHSIDE CINEMA. i had forgotten you reopened one side after closing the twin up. I couldn’t get Tony B.,but I think I will have a good story on the HIGHWAY 56 DRIVE-IN.Keep your eyes on CT.
I never know about my weekends, depends on what is at the civic center.Remember at our reunion I had to leave alot earlier than I wanted because of a show.
It must have closed before 1967 because i can find no ads in the Knoxville papers i have. has anyone in Knoxville written up the Twin_air Drive-in on CT. When i search for it it states there is no theatre listed. Hopefully someone up that way will. I saw it once and it looked real nice.
No dates, but these two movies are playing. “TRAINING DAY” and “GLITTER”. They don’t believe in putting one sheets out.Looking at the picture i took it looks closed from the road.

I will try to get more stories on this cinema via Barry.

BUZZARD’S BAY.. Bet “ADDAMS FAMILY” did great business.
it amazes me the track record of Carmike cinemas.
Strange thing is I want to think his name was RAYMOND or RICHARD,but i can’t remember. He was a great guy.like most Theatre guys.
I worked for ABC THEATRES in Augusta, and got to know a manager in that town and he put me and another ABC THEATRE employee up for a couple of days to save on Hotel rates.
This is one of the ABC THEATRES in this town.I am pretty sure there was another and it was lucky enough i think to have played “JAWS” first run.

Was this one of the TWO ABC THEATRES we had in that Ocean town?

Hoping Robin will print the picture I had of the Box office.

More movies that played at the BIG-MO. MAY 11-12-13. “THE MUMMY RETURNS” “JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS” another strange double bill.
“BIG DADDY” rated PG-13 and “ARLINGTON ROAD” rated R.
