Wow, I just looked at the photo Ziggy posted a few months ago, and the Pitkin’s interior is really in shambles. It almost seems worse than what the Keiths in Flushing looks like. Not much hope here for the interior….
When did the church move out?
Ahh, that’s too bad. Since you can’t see the theater from the street, I had a glimmer of hope that perhaps the theater was still back there, and now with the crappy economy there was a very small glimmer of hope they would reopen it as a theater again. I didn’t realize they took it down so quickly. I guess they did so there would be no chance whatsoever of a change in plans….
I don’t remember the water fountain.
I do remember the bathrooms downstairs….they were continued to be used when it was a roller rink….I remember going down the stairs with skates on, haha…
I also know Aunt Bella’s. I was some other name in the early 90’s.
George, here’s the “problem” explained. Basically, you just have to make a new comment in any theater you want to continue to recieve notifications from. Any theater you didn’t comment in after around March 15th, you won’t get the notifications from unless you make a new message. You can click your name to for an easy access to the list of theaters you commented in, but you have to make a new message in any of the ones you want to keep updated on.

Haha, not to reopen the controversy on “what” the title of this theater is, and the NY Times may not have had “the” as part of the name, but it did have “Theater” as part of the name…..“United Palace Theater”. :)
For some reason, I couldn’t read that link without logging into the NY Times site, but found another link on google which I didn’t have to sign in for:
If I am not mistaken, there was a drive in somewhere around where the mall is now, but not entirely sure where….I think near where Rt 25 and Rt 347 meet.
It’s probably an endangered palace as Luis said, but the downturn in the economy may have bought some time….
I am sure the economy didn’t help the already struggling Atlas Park mall. Personally, the idea was a little “high end” for the area.
Is the Paradise “closed”?
I don’t think anything is even booked for a while in it.
There is the Brandon Cinemas on Austin St which used to be the Continental? is that the one you mean?
Keith’s owned this little theater? I guess it closed it when it got involved in the Bushwick Theater next door?
That photo must be just before the street totally went to hell.
Here’s a current street view of the theater as the drug store:

I think this theater has been demolished.
Are you sure this theater is demolished? This isn’t the side of a theater?

Is Stomp still at this theater?
Wow that is a lot of information on that marquee!
(also reregistering for alerts at the same time)

Scratch that, it may be too soon to say it’s permanently closed.
Actually, it looks better abandoned today than it did in the 1987 photo Robert posted!
The status should be changed to “closed” above though.
There appears to be a large apartment building now on the site:

Was this always a porn theater or did it have at least a short life as a real theater?
Great 1980’s photos!

…many changes, and no ridiculously placed trees right in front of the marquee!

Wow, “Teatro Orpheum”…never knew it was a Spanish Theater for a while.
