Remember seeing this theater on a school trip in the early 70’s.

Spartacus was the last film to play here. It closed in the late 60’s.

AMC in Florida was always good but I know a company from China bought them a few years ago. The thing I didn’t like is they buy up smaller theater chains then close anything that isn’t a multiplex.

The first in Cinebarre chain they let this theater loose business by not keeping up with the time. They never installed 3-D projection even before the big digital boom which caused them to loose business and covnert to a discount house. Still in operation showing 35mm prints I don’t know how long they will be able to last without going digital. They were given a new lease with the new owners of the mall which are totally gutting it and making it an outlet mall. I hope they will either go digital or get purchased by another chain. The food is great but pricy. They do need to learn how to treat their employees. Wait staff is demoted to tickettaking or busing if they dont' pull in a certain quota of food sales which is rediculous becuase you can’t force people to but food or drinks.

Like my beloved Boyd theater this was another example that the city of Phila doesn’t give a damn about preserving any of the historic old theaters. They are now all gone which is a disgrace.

Very nice theater now with all digital projection. Unfortunatley this theater doesn’t do well and it conerns me thatRegal will be shutting it’s doors if business doesn’t pick up.

Has been the worst theater in the Asheville area. There idea of customer service sucks. I havent'been there for several years but they had totally stopped using box office staff even during busy times. Tickets were sold at the concession stand only.A few sumers ago the auditorium we were going to had no ac. They didn’t even have the courtesy to tell us or have a sign when we bought the tickets. I would love to see another chain purchase this theater it is the pitts.

That is wonderful. I miss that theater so much. So glad it’s alive and doing well. When I lived there from 83-96 the screen actually rolled up like a shade. They had no side masking. The curtains were used in place of the masking for films that were flat. With that said did they get a new screen and masking since I left 18 years ago?

Your right TheAlan Budco never owned this theater, they owned the Old City Twin which wasn’t far from the Ritz 5 which was taken over by the Ritz owner from AMC when AMC purchased the Budco chain.

Mikeoaklandpark commented about Beach Theatre on Apr 13, 2014 at 2:51 pm

TheAlan I grew up in AC and at least from 67 until it closed it was the Beach. The Embassy and Shore were two different theaters. The Embassy was part of the Apollo circuit chain along wioth the Strand and Apollo later sold to the dreadful Frank Theaters. The Shore along with the Hollywood, Center, Roxy and Virginia were part of the George A Hamid chain which also owned the Steel Pier and Million Dollar Pier.
