Thanks William for the photo image. They did not have 70mm TODD-AO here and a semi small screen I wonder If they even played this film in 4 track mag stereo? I know they had stereo for ‘Gigi’ that played as a roadshow. This marquee has changed over the years to the brand new one for August Hall. They are now open.
Thanks so much for this photo Mad Organ. Nice to see green lights on a curtain. In the USA most cinemas don’t even bother or even lite curtains these days. No showmanship left in Americas multiplex junk.
The art paintings on the left cement wall of the former Market St SF entrance of the Paramount Theatre are semi new and were put on the old lobby wall in the last few years by local art people.
As I walked by the former Pix Theatre on Market SF on Sat Aug 25 2018 we noticed both the long gone Radio Shack is gone on the right and now the Subway store on the left is now for lease. A wall divides up just the front part of the Pix B movie theatre. Some smart small theatre owner that wants to make some tourist money and have fun needs to put the Pix Theatre back in as best they can including the classic neon marquee. This former B movie cinema is only ½ block from the busy Powell St cable car and Bart trains. Thousands of tourists are here every day. There are no more single screen movie theatres left on Market ST in SF these days. Needs to be operated as a Grindhouse with 3 retro features showing around the clock. This means old trailers and cartoons ect. Turn It back to the good old days. The locals and tourists would love it. The help working at the New Pix can act out the glory days of the Grindhouse with their outfits and attitude. A great place for Tarantino to take It over. I am sure you can get a good lease with the owners of the building.
I guess the re model people will wait till the last week before re opening in mid Sept 2018 to polish up the classic ever leaking terrazzo entrance were the boxoffice once stood. This fake front was put up when the did a mini remodel after the Cinerama 70mm people people left and It became a legit house with the opening of Chorus Line. Working at a local TV station then I did a small news feature on the re opening.
Thanks Atmos for the photo. This place needs some color lights in the niches not all white bulbs! Something is strange on the left part of the stage screen. The curtain balance does not seem correct. Is that a heater vent or left organ grill on the left side? Someone must love Orange/Terracotta paint here. Like I say needs some Green and Blue bulbs. Nice looking theatre.
Yes I was there in 1971 to see this. They put two 3D 35mm R/L images on a 70mm print. Looked great and sounded great. StereoVision® was a hot system. They may not have had a 7PM showing? IA union crew may have needed a rest time. It was not super wide screen but filled the middle part of the screen with crisp color and reach out 3D with one 70mm projector.
The Alhambra when It was a single cinema had one of the largest curved CinemaScope® screens in San Francisco with curtains. Everyone was so shocked when the Blumenfelds put a wall in.
Thanks again Rives for all the great ads. This theatre was torn down for a boring parking lot. Had one of the best large curved screens in the SF Bay Area.
Thanks Rivest for the classic ad. I was there at the UA Stonestown to see this film when It was a single screen. UA got money hungry and cut in half soon after. You have some great SF Bay Area movie theatre ads thanks for sharing them with us.
SF’S only UA Theatre left now run by Regal will be torn down soon as a new Regal multiplex will be going in across from the Stonestown Cinema in the space Macy’s was.
Finally after all these years of bad used small box no volume surround speakers on the side walls from the Blumenfeld Alhambra Theatre in SF the Castro Theatre will be getting a new kick ass stereo surround system we hear to go also along with their new electronic/pipe organ.
Thanks Rives what a great find. The Fairfax was my local theatre in Oakland when I was in school. Still stands today but a church. Golden State Theatres had great Sat kiddie shows I remember. Many years before It closed United CA Theatres the second name for GS Theatres covered everything near the stage with drapes. I remember going the first weekend after the curtain cover up the walls remodel and they gave free donuts out to all the kids and adults in the audience.
The whole ceiling in side the former Hollywood Paramount Theatre now Disney’s El Capitain was wrecked with the install of metal railings to hold the new Dolby Atmos® speakers. Just don’t look up and don’t be in the place when the big quake hits. Still a nice place to see a movie with many sets of curtains and drapes.
Hope Tarantino films inside M Franks next door. Too bad they did not edit out the old tree in front of the Vogue marquee. It must have been small in the late 1960’s or not even planted on Hollywood Blvd.
Looks like the two side end marquee panel wings at the new GG will be backlit by neon light? No new LED screens on the sides.
Thanks Kers for the photo. What a nice large curved screen at this cinema.

This photo along with my others were taken in August 2018.
Sorry my error this was not the lot of the former Regal Theatre. That is up a block near were the Paramount Theatre was.
Sorry my mistake this is not the lot were the Regal was. That was up the street near the long gone Paramount Theatre.

These are the new floor and rugs soon to open in mid Sept 2018.

Thanks David, what a nice fountain to have in a theatre lobby or store. Needs some color light in the water and overhead. Thanks for sharing.
When is the new marquee going up?

I guess they ran out of green paint?

Love the sign NUDESCOPE AND BARECOLOR. Thanks David and Julia.
