It wasn’t cool for Norman that night.he was pretty much a kid himself, but could run a booth. My one change over wouldn’t have went over well at the FOX theatre in Atlanta, but for a small mountain town we got no gripes.
Oh come on,you did this to me on some Drive-in about holding BOATS! LOL. I hope to be adding TRI CITY DRIVE in, MIDWAY DRIVE in and SKYLAND ARTS CINEMA this weekend if Nick is able to get them on CT.Nick, got THE DREAMLAND on ,but i really need more research on that Theatre.
Robin, SATURDAY REUNION is almost here.even if we have 6 or 7 it will be a good time. ABC/PLITT THEATRES kick ASS. 1974- whenever you guys quit in hotlanta.
Sean has a love of theatres.More so than his brother and two sisters. He worked in the business for awhile running the booth, becoming Assistant Mgr,but found out he made more in the booth hourly than on salary. He later worked as a waiter in Dallas Texas at a cinema that served food, Tony Romo of the Cowboys left him a 50.00 tip for a couple of drinks, and that was after Sean told him he was a big FALCON fan. I told Sean he should have told Tony he was a big COWBOY fan,but he couldn’t.Go Birds.
Our Concessionstand girls did it in their heads or on a sheet of paper. We were 80.00 short one night at Regency.Found out a new hire was pocketing some of the cash.
Don’t ask how we made up the shortage, you probably know.
Yes, almost right across the street. They [arts group} are trying to get money from the city for more work on it. At least a new roof was put on several years ago.

Nick, when will DALE MARBY Drive in be finished? If Charlie worked there interview him for the story. I mailed some theatre stories for you to put on CT. Thanks. Jennifer got a job at Sonic burgers and drive in she will be roller skating out to cars. they grow up fast.
TLSLOEWS.it is Augusta’s largest theatre and pretty much gave us competition during the years i subbed at the Imperial. It stayed open a bit longer, but what they were playing was the worst of Kung-Fu movies.
And sure the little multiplexs in the burbs certainly rushed the closings of both theatres, Today all the little cinemas that opened during the lean years for downtown theatres are all but gone, save one,MASTERS CINEMAS which is our dollar theatre.
that is a set-up I wish we would have had ;nothing would piss me off more than after counting thousands of dollars of box office, than go find why we were short 12.00 in concession. the way you guys had it was another manager worried about that. And usually by 10:00 pm i was not wanting to be worried were 10 drink cups were misplaced.
Now that is something I never heard of. I know at one time ARA did concessions at our civic center,so i have heard of them. I guess you guys had it pretty easy with check out. Just the Box office and I guess ARA handle the food, Just think, you probably never had to count popcorn and drink cups until you were almost Blind.
Yep, same marquee, but while the rest of the assistants here were glad to get off marquee duty once the moved up to management, this old theatre Dawg wasn’t letting some rookie mess up his marquees. I only wish i had taken more pictures.
Continuing…… she would agree it was hard for a girl in the theatre here. I still don’t believe she was an assistant while i was there. When i was fired, she might have got the job. But she was a cheerleader at Augusta College, don’t see how she had the time, but who knows.
Yeah, SUPERVISORS my butt. you guys were as much as a manager as I was at all three of our Theatres. that pipe smoking hot dog head just didn’t want ladies in management titles. I know it’s nit picking,But Cindy Muns who was the FIRST FEMALE assistant mgr withABC/Plitt here had a heck of a time getting that title. Maybe even in the mid to late70’s it was a MAN thing. personally, i didn’t care,as Karen Harpe reminded me at our 1987 theatre reunion she was a assistant at Coulmbia 1 and 2 as I was,and she did all the paperwork, cause as Karen said,“MIKE CAN’T ADD” oh, i was better on the floor anyways dealing with the public. If Karen could get on

Chuck 1231,I will check with my cousin Ray,he is from that area and has helped me with all the Hendersonville,N.C. theatres and Drive-ins.
Oh,Robin,go to PHIPPS PLAZA, TLSLOEWS wants some ATLANTA theatre stories from you.

Iwish we would have thought of that.
Well, in 1956 it parked 300 cars so it must have enlarged since above it is listed at 500 cars! It was owned by Phil Isley theatres.
I think the PASTIME is a dinner theatre too, like the PAL theatre in LOUISVILLE,GA.

Hey, TLSLOEWS,ROBIN managed this classy theatre. I was never there so she is going to have to START WRITING.

Robin, you gotta start filling up this theatre with your stories.
Nick, keep the faith! anywhere i can when I write I try to remind CT the great stories they miss if they don’t seekout your material.
Nick, your buddy BILL BARKLEY will be there. And you would be welcome I know cause Robin would love your 6 months in the business stories.
