walterk, I spoke to my mom the other day and she did indeed know and graduated with Alice. Small world.

Thanks for that walterk. It was my pleasure to supply the photo and sharing it with you and the group. Also the above header should now also include “renovating” “restoring”

Didnt Bow Tie drop the 2 in Pennsylvania? The Bala and Anthony Wayne? Or were they dumped by cablevision?

A big thank you to walterk for setting up the visit to the Ritz today. It was something for me to be in the same building my dad worked in all those years ago. I even got to go to the old projection room where he walked and worked. The old place needs a lot of work, but the people in charge have a vision and now lets hope the $$$$$ start rolling in.

In the early 2000’s I cleaned the screen here once. It was a beautiful theatre. It was nice to clean a huge screen, quite a departure from the small screens I was use to cleaning in the clearviews.

In the Capitol cities video Safe and Sound they show 2 projectors to the right of the one with the Carbon Arc that have 2 smaller blue xenon lamphouses.

And yes, Interstellar was one of the greatest expieriences I ever had in a movie theatre. Awesome movie.

Kurtpvincent, I agree with you on 2 points. I saw Interstellar in 70mm film at the Ziegfeld, and I too, as a projectionist of over 38 years also love film. These days I am a stagehand, who works occasionally at a performing arts center that do movies, but they are all digital or DVD. I hate it, but its an evil I must live with.

Had it still been open these days, people would be sitting in crush hour traffic and would be lucky to make a 7 or 730 pm start time.

Matt, I work around the block at the arena. As a former projectionist, I would have loved to get inside and see this place, along with the Paramount and Proctors. Keep up the good work.

Drove by here just the other day. All quiet. Nothing going on lately.

Went to the 2:45pm show today. About 75 people in the audience. No curtains, but I was informed by Joe Masher that there was a tech there tweeking things, which I can believe as we were not let in till 2:35 and there was a film loop running on the screen. The presentation was flawless, no scratches or dirt. It did start out of frame, and there were people talking in the booth that we could hear. Sound was kickin. My wife and I had a great time.

Like I said, I guess being a projectionist for over 38 years, I notice these things the average joe would not. If they ever give booth tours Im in, LOL

On Motion Picture Technology, there have been reviews and comments coming in from all over the country. There were some comments about sound problems from various venues, but none from New York City. There was one comment about the IMAX in Pallasades Center about dust specs thru the entire movie. And in many venues complaints about scratches. But again nothing yet from the Ziegfeld. Im hoping to go next week either Monday or Wednesday.

If it will help rcdt55b, I was sitting in row EE seat 503. Vito, I have seen photos of the booth, but like you, and you know me for many years, Im just a booth junkie I guess. And now more than ever since I dont work in the business anymore because of digital, I just love seeing old projection rooms.

bigjoe59, yes I know the Zeig doesnt get those exclusive runs anymore, but they do have the movie 3 days earlier than everyone else, and its being shown on film. We all sit here and read everyday the love of film folks like myself and you have, and I just figured it would have been a bigger draw. I walked by yesterday on my way to the RCMH christmas show to check on showtimes for next week. Im hoping to go monday. Even my wife said to me why not just see it in here in Jersey where we go. And I said because I want to see it on film.

And I also looked back up to the projection room port windows and saw 2 projectionists looking out at the end of the show. Oh how I miss projection, and wishing that one day I could see this iconic booth. Once again my wife is working the show. Heres to to a great run.

Saw the Christmas show at 5:30 last night. Glad to see they revamped it a bit and got rid of that stupid game playing skit. A quick question, when I was watching the 3D segment, why was the left side of the screen significantly brighter than the rest of the screen. It looked as if the screen had a bright patch sewn in, which of course I know is not possible. It was just a bit distracting, but I still enjoyed it, knowing it was on film. I should add I was 5 rows from the screen on the aisle just left of house center.

Never had a scratch in the 9 years I was a projectionist there. But that all ended in march 2004

its a bit over 10 years since this large single screen theatre bit the dust.
