The Architectural Committee denied the plans primarily because they felt new construction plans weren’t specific enough. The full Historical Commission has since approved the owner’s proposal for the Boyd’s Chestnut St facade. Earlier new owner was going to preserve the facade, Grand Lobby, and Foyer but later decided to put a Loading Dock & other uses in the Foyer. Some issues (Sansom St redo for Loading Dock, the residential tower, and the design of the infill building between Boyd & 1900 Chestnut will return to Historical Commission. Friends of the Boyd invite all to visit our website & our Facebook page for updates. This week, we’ve been posting on Facebook photos of the beautiful Monel metal figures (designed by artist Alfred Tulk) that were in the auditorium & were retrieved by the owner.

The current feature, The Woman in Gold, like the prior feature, The Imitation Game, which ran for months, is not also at the AMC Sony Lincoln Center or on 42nd St (AMC Empire 25 or Regal E Walk). It is great the Paris can showcase a movie without it being everywhere else.

HowardBHaas commented about Regal Moorestown Mall Stadium 12 & RPX Theatre on Apr 20, 2015 at 6:34 am

Regal’s website has showtimes for what seem like 6 auditoriums. One strong possibility is that new lounge style chairs are replacing the regular luxury chairs in those auditoriums, because of great box office success at other theaters with that kind of seating. Another Philly area multiplex, the AMC Plymouth Meeting 12 also closed down 6 auditoriums at a time while replacing their seats.

Bertinphilly, I get you want to chat with others from that era, but not from then (child then),I learned from the weekend tuxedo reference & would be eager to hear about any movie premieres, stars, or anything about the moviegoing experience then. FYI, that’s primarily my Intro above. I also wrote the Intros for the Goldman & Regency. Any recollections about movies specific to those theaters would fit nicely on those pages. Thanks!

Main Line Times today profiles a restaurant reuse of the theater, which has further remodeled the façade. It says the restaurant is taking advantage of the tall ceilings inside the 5000 square foot space & dining on top of the marquee. http://www.mainlinemedianews.com/articles/2015/02/19/main_line_times/news/doc54e36f2555a67721111016.txt

Cleopatra was actually at the Stanley Theatre, which has its own page and was a beautiful prewar movie palace (according to historical accounts, as I wasn’t there).
