In the 8/11/07 ad, you will find the Alto, the York in Highland Park, and also the Church of the Open Door, the rooftop sign of which has moved over to the UA on Broadway. So it’s a trifecta.
This is a 1939 photo. The building at approximately 107 S. Broadway looks like a theater, but it could be a number of things. It would have been a few doors north of the Mason. http://tinyurl.com/5mg8h4
Regarding the popcorn, there wasn’t any. There was a ratty looking display with some candy bars, but I don’t know who were supposed to pay if you actually wanted one.

I remember Rio Grande. There used to be a Starn’s supermarket there that my mother went to once in a while. I don’t remember the drive-in, though.
Here are some May 1993 newspaper articles when the theater was demolished:

“Available for corperate events”. I bet the corperations just flock to their door when they see that sign.
Here is an article about the opening:

Looks good to me. Thanks.
It didn’t work for me. Can you post it again?
Thanks. I saw the Traymore implode when I was in sixth grade. That’s the large hotel seen in the distance.
OK, thanks.
This had been changed to closed, but now it’s back to closed/demolished. Must be a gremlin in the system.
I vaguely recall the amusement park. I think there were a couple of childrens' rides and some skeeball games.
A mariachi show is scheduled for Sunday May 11, per the marquee.
Warren, can you post the 1949 photo again?

I wonder what the actual demolition date was? It was still around in the late 70s when I was in high school.
