1718 would be the east side of Main, so the theater would be exactly where an enormous freeway support stands now. I think the 110 was built in the mid to late fifties, so this theater has been gone for at least fifty years.
I drive by this place all the time and I never see anything going on. I would really like to go inside and see what’s left. Same with the Gentry in South LA. Maybe I should pose as a salesman.
When I was out front, an intoxicated man kept walking back and forth yelling on his cell phone. This was before lunch time. He was telling some girl that he didn’t need to give her a dollar for bus fare as he had plenty of other girlfriends with cars. I assume that’s not indicative of the neighborhood as a whole.
Rick Caruso was recently interviewed in the LA Times regarding his new mall in Glendale. He made a snide comment about seeing only eighty year olds the first time he went to the Farmers Market. I’m not one of his fans.
If you look at the 1942 photo and the one from April 5, you can see that the current building shows more of the original design. I was confused because I only remembered those flat panels behind the marquee, like you see in Lost Memory’s photo of 9/22/07. I guess they took those panels down, which revealed the original design.
This 1937 photo from the LAPL is a new addition:

I know. I was stuck behind a fender bender today at that exact intersection, and I started ruminating (if that refers to humans as well as cows).

OK, it was a bad guess. Thanks.

I stopped by the theater today. From the outside, it looks pretty dismal. I will post some photos later.
“Thoroughly Modern Millie” is on the marquee today, presented by the SPMS. I’m guessing that’s South Pasadena Musical Society.
I saw “Mr. Baseball” here in the early nineties. This mall always has bad luck no matter how many times they remodel it.
OK, thanks. I will be back there next month. I will try and take some pictures.

Ziegfeld’s daughter died recently. There was an obit in today’s LA Times.

I drove by there last week, and the sign says California 2 Theatres. I guess they lost a screen sometime in the past few months.
