On my way into the city yesterday on the bus, for the first time in 3 months, the theatre is now nothing but a very small pile of rubble. And yes the Multiplex sign by the turnpike is still there as is the marquee by rte 1. A For Sale sign hangs from it.
walterk, about 3 weeks ago I drove by here on my way to work. There was a large container dumpster outside. I guess it was for all the interior demo that was going on. On my way in 2 days ago the dumpster was gone and all appears quiet for now.
Vito, I worked all summer on a renovation at the AMC mountainside theatre. Same thing happened there. Some theatres seat capacities were cut in half. 200 seat theatres suddenly had 100 seats.
Vito, what you just described was what my father use to call “showmanship”, something thats been lacking since I would say the late 70’s/early 80’s as the age of twinning and the birth of multiplexes took place. As he always told me, I came into the game a few years too late.
techman707, when I lost my job as projectionist in May of 2013 (after 37 years) the owner I was working for said that the film companies would love to see all theatres gone and have everything go to pay per view. Now I dont know if this could happen, but you never know.

Went here with my wife last night to see “What If”. (Dont bother, it stunk} But the expeirience was nice. I hope AMC doesnt remodel this one and leaves the black maskings on the screens, something they just got done removing in the mountainside remodel.
This is the theatre your thinking about. Also the Amboys Multiplex opened in 1979 and closed in 2005.
Good for Nolan. Keep it up. This whole push to digital was stupid and only the smart theatres retained some of their film equipment.

I plan on going there to see it in 70MM. It will be a pleasure to watch a movie on FILM instead of digital.

Probably the first cinema in the country to go from film to digital to film. I would love to see more of them do it.

A friend of mine who lives near this theatre told me the other day that Cinemark has half the complex closed and are gutting and remodeling it.
