I saw the Galway in an episode of Baretta last night. There was another theater a few doors south that had a yellow marquee. Both theaters were showing adult films. I counted at least six pawn shops between Fifth and Sixth.
Going back to the Grotto at 341 S. Main, if I can digress briefly, this photo was on the LA Times “Daily Mirror” site. The photo was taken shortly before the Grotto closed in 1953. The Follies would be the building on the right: http://tinyurl.com/6p6naq

The LA Harbor International Film Festival is this weekend. I am going to see “Unsinkable Molly Brown” on Saturday. I’ve never been inside the Warner.
That’s an interesting site. He really gives you the flavor of LA a hundred years ago.
I don’t know that much about architectural design, but I don’t think the style is art deco.
This postcard shows a theater on Central Street, but the theater is part of the Hotel Henderson.

The former Holly can be seen in the background in these two 1992 photos from the LAPL:

This is a 1992 photo, location unknown. I doubt if the theater would be called “The Loma”, so this is probably a bar.

So it’s not demolished, then.

I saw a Brazilian film here a few years ago. It’s a nice venue.
Joe, can you check the assessor’s records on this building? I think it’s the original. Thanks.
Do we have a bingo function? Otherwise it’s a community hall, more or less.

I asked the guards last summer if I could take pictures. No go.
