I called the number that was listed on one site today as I thought the theater might have reopened. I spoke to a nice woman, probably Mrs. Koons, who lives above the theater. She confirmed that the Moon has been closed since 1994.
It looks like the city offices are still in the north end of the mall, but the theater is gone, as Pete pointed out in 2002. Status should be closed/demolished.
We only have one drive-in listed in Fairfax to date. The theater in the photo was on Route 7 by the old Washington-Virginia airport. If anyone can place this drive-in, let me know. You have to scroll for a while before you get to the drive-in photo: http://tinyurl.com/29o2co
