Anybody from Philly driving there? I am eager to see Wings but due to Hurricane, mass transit (Path from Jersey City to Newark) won’t do. Would be happy to share expenses. Let me know before Saturday.

Does the theater even have a 2k or 4k digital projector for new films? Because if it doesn’t, then the DVD is projected thru what I will call the slide projector and I would never pay a nickel to see it that way. For that matter, I’m not interested at all in movie theater projection of DVDs. Some movies are being put on 2k or 4k, and that’s a different discussion.

This week, a 2nd screen has been converted to digital projection.

I just received (from the AFI Silver in DC) an email invite for the US premiere for The Hobbit at the Ziegfeld, to benefit the AFI, at 7 PM on December 6 for only $500 a ticket! (not for me).As to “The Master” surround, I had seen Bourne Legacy a few weeks before, here, and that movie had booming surround whereas not for The Master.

Yesterday, saw “The Master” in 70mm at the Ziegfeld in NYC, where it looked stunning! No use of curtain, and no surround sound but the score was great. At least a few hundred people attended the 3:30 PM show. Anybody see it here at the AFI?

I really enjoyed the gorgeous print today of “South Pacific” The color filters didn’t damage the fun. Overture music before curtain opened, intermission at 1 hr 40 min, music again at end of intermission & at end of movie. Sound was excellent. 70mm beauty of this film beats the living daylights out of anything in 2k. I agree with other Internet reviewers who said this film isn’t right for a TV screen, that you need to see it on a larger screen (like the AFI Silver main auditorium) When Ray Walston appeared on screen, I expected to see antennas arise from his head, having watched so much of the TV show “My Favorite Martian” long ago.

Quickly looking at the Internet for what has been shown elsewhere, I think it is likely that “South Pacific” will be shown in 70 mm, 6 track stereo. I’d still be eager to hear about the sound track of “Khartoum” that was shown. Did anybody see “Lord Jim”?

For years, the status of four Broadway theaters owned by the Delijani family has been one of the biggest trouble points for the revitalization of Broadway. Although many have envisioned a revived Palace, State, Los Angeles and Tower theaters functioning as mini-epicenters of nightlife, the family has been slow to act, worried about the cost, loading issues and a perceived lack of parking.

Now, all that could change. If the new plan comes to fruition, the family could have a major role in really bringing back Broadway.

Next week, Shahram Delijani expects to file documents with the Department of City Planning for a proposal that would bring the turn-of-the-20th-century theaters back to life by transforming them into concert venues and delivering restaurants and bars. The plan involves securing a series of permits that would, in essence, consolidate all four venues into a single “theater complex,” even though they are on different blocks.

JodarMovieFan, I saw Jurassic Park in digital sound, DTS, I think, at the Uptown when it was issued in 1993. An Internet search indicated Khartoum prints had been put in DTS sound. I’m hoping Mr. Guttag will clarify.

As to the Master in 70mm at the Ziegfeld: yea! Yea! yea!

yes, according to the link, Philadelphia is getting it but not in 70mm. The Boyd had 70mm projection & could have it again in the future. A donor Angel would expedite it!
