“The Right Productions has started booking performances for the Fine Arts Theatre on Woodward in Midtown. The theater had not been in use for over a decade.
The Right Productions occupied the space late last year and is in the process of buying it. They’ve held seven events in the 1914-theater since December, including four during Super Bowl week. "
It also appears the mystery as to what is happening to the Admiral has been solved:

This redevelopment site is anchored by a market with 11,000 sf of newly remodeled office on 2nd floor offers a unique
opportunity for a variety of retail/office users. There are 4 storefronts that offer excellent accessibility to Detroit’s eastside.
So it appears that the building is office and retail now.
They have had the building complete for a couple months. It looks very beautiful with details such as rosettes between floors, it is some great infill.
The building hosted a temporary bar for the Super Bowl. They said they plan to have it all finished in the near future
i would love to see your artifacts from the building. I have unused tickets to the shows, such as BOC, Kiss, Aerosmith, etc. in addition to floorplans and a few other things.

The exterior was quite beautiful for the Super Bowl. It had red, white, and blue floods on it.
I believe the exterior was recently cleaned and restored also.
I should add that the facade wasn’t cleaned well and not very complete. They basically cleaned the areas under the little mini roof on the facade. They didnt bother to clean the towers (which are still filled with grime and grime)
Thy should have cleaned it all and lit it like it was back in that day
Jimmy Kimmel has been utilizing the Gem as his taping locations while he is in for Super Bowl. He will be taping for a week.
i seen it yesterday, I liked the Detroit flavor of the opening and scenes. The musical guests performed on the Century Grille stage. They covered up the nice little arch with wood paneling.
If anyone has any photos of this theater (interior or exterior) from 1915-1949 it would be greatly appreciated, as it was designed by WS Joy an architect I am constantly curious about.
Today Ilitch had a press conference that included the United Artists, Fine Arts Building, Fox Theater, and former Madison-Lenox Site and Detroit Building.
A gate has been put up around the building as well as two huge mutlistory banners advertising a development oppurtunity.

Though a bit late, a thank you to UA80 for posting those archives.
When I was in the theater a few months ago, I noticed a little bit of police tape in the balcony. I thought back to the articles you posted, made me wonder if that is what they were from.
My favorite theater of all time, the Michigan has been a cameo for quite a few movies.
Also in “The Island,” right after the Michigan Theater part, Johnny Rockets, the car crash/msn lookup scene, and the clone shoot scene with the angel, were all shot here in Detroit.
Cell phones maybe needed in an emergency such as a death in a family. I see putting the cell phone in silent or beeper mode in case an emergency occurs.

I have a scan of the entrance to the theater when it was Brown’s Chapel. I will upload it soon when I get some time.
The marquee reads “Brown’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church
Office No. 331-2510 11205 Fr. Brown Pastor”
I agree now, I thought the new owner would keep everything the way it was and restore it all.
Instead we get fake columns, removal of the canopy sign, painting over the murals… so much for the villa being the way it was

Great to see another memory of this fine palace.

Scaffolding down, a nice white, clean facade has risen.
Great new on the tower
As of last night it was up and running, the LED lighting and animated star, looks quite nice!

They have a rendering under their photo gallery, as well as what the old one looked like. View link
They have already finished installing them (what a turnaround!), unfortunately I haven’t been down to get some photos of it yet.
Great news! The tower along the top of the Fox will be recreated with a cool LED scheme. Full info on that here: View link

The first floor seating of the State Theater in Ann Arbor is an Urban Outfitters. Only the twinned balcony is used for movies.
Wow, this appears to be a beauitful theater.
Reminds me somewhat of the Michigan Theater here in Detroit.
The lobby is comparable to that of Rapp & Rapp.
Such a shame this beautiful treasure had to be demolished.
Can’t forget about the Cinema Treasures book aslo, EdSolero!
The owner of the Michigan Theater was kind enough to give me a copy of the Theater Society Annual from 95'. It has some great pics never seen before.
Too bad they are tearing down the Studebaker Plant there. That place is a landmark
Indeed this is a location in Detroit, Ed.
This is the beautiful Michigan Theater here in Detroit. here is my My page and here is the cinema treasures page for it.
