I noticed it somehow got posted twice, sorry. Come to think of it, it needed to be said twice!

I did forget to say more on topic, I thought the building was going to look much nicer as a Mosque then it ever did as a theater.

MikeRogers, larry goldsmith. Johnllon;

I spent 40 long years in the U.S. Navy defending your FREEDOM OF SPEECH so you could say your above comments.

I also spent those 40 years for FREEDOM OF RELIGION, not just certain religions some approve of, but ALL religions!

“Let them stay in Pakistan and Morocco.” I wonder if any NATIVE AMERICANS ever wish “LET THEM (all of us) STAY” out of THEIR LAND?

Muslims like most other people are wonderful folks. A very few are rotten apples yes, but that’s true of everyone, you don’t throw out the baby with the bath water!

The below was true when it was written 61 years ago and sadly is still true today!

“You’ve got to be taught to hate and fear
You’ve got to be taught from year to year
It’s got to be drummed in your dear little ear
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes oddly made
And people whose SKIN IS A DIFFERNT SHADE
You’ve got to be carefully taught

You’ve got to be taught before it’s too late
Before you are six or seven or eight
To hate all the prople your relatives hate
You’ve got to be carefully taught.
You’ve got to be carefully taught."

Shawmut isn’t even listed in Rand McNally. It has a Valley, AL, ZIP Code, 36854, and is also very close to Huguley and Lanett. Lannett did have a Valley Drive-In in the 1990’s that “sat” 70 cars.

The Shawmut, Valley Drive-In was open 1955-1964?

AKA

BABBITT COURT

How the town of Babbitt ever got to be built so a Babbit Theater could open and how the town dissapeared.

The U.S. Naval Ammunition Depot Hawthorne, Nevada, now Hawthorne Army Depot (in the middle a nowhere, a good place for such a place to be built) was built at the beginning of World War II. Civilians were needed to work in the Depot and those civilians needed a place to live. The Navy built a whole new town next to Hawthorne. It was named for Captain (that’s equal to an Army Colonel) H.S. Babbitt Inspector of Ordnance in Charge of the Depot. Babbitt of course needed a theater. As time went on the civilians were no longer needed. The last residents left Babbitt in 1987. All the buildings have been torn down except for a school building and a bowling alley. Talk about a GHOST TOWN, go to the map and see what it looks like with everything gone, but the streets!

Simon Overton; How’s this?

ATTENTION U.S. ARMY, MARINE CORPS, NAVY, AIR FORCE COAST GUARD, VETERANS AND DEPENDENTS, HELP!

This is only number 2 of 135 operating U.S. Army Air Force Exchange Service, Reel Time Theaters, I hope to list on Cinema Treasures. This does not include U.S. Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard Theaters that are operating. Also not included are theaters that are not operating or have been demolished on U.S. Military Installations both operating and closed. It must be THOUSANDS OF THEATERS!

PLEASE ADD THEATERS YOU KNOW ABOUT OR ADD COMMENTS OR PHOTOS. REMEMBER THE GENERAL PUBLIC CAN’T HELP US ON THESE THEATERS!

Mike; Before you made your comment did you look at the Google Map to see the location of the Signal THEATER? Did you look at the Website to see what what movies are playing? Would they be out on DVD? I don’t think you did that before you made your comment!

Before you jump to any more conclusions, you must know someone in Augusta who can get you on the installation and into the theater and up in the booth? We want a full report!

Be sure to pick up a copy of the Movie Schedule at the Theater, Blimpies, Godfathers Pizza, Troop Burger King or Main PX Food Court, for the collection you have of that sort of thing.
