Here is an ad from when “Parent Trap” was on the RKO circut in July 1961. What is interesting is that some of the theatres are playing it with a Disney featurette called “The Saga of Windwagon Smith” and others with a co-feature called “Snipers Ridge” which does not appear to be a Disney film. However all houses ran the Donald Duck cartoon “Donald and the Wheel”. The next day the new show was Elvis in “Wild in the Country” and the “Trapp Family Singers”. View link
Hopefully the residents of Union, Illinois have more class then this small minded town and enjoy the marquee and facade. This whole thing reeks of payola, under the table money and the good old boys club. I would love to know what you people consider “over-taxed”, for the sake of a few dollars you will give up what is probably the only decent thing in your narrow minded town.
I did not mean anything disprespectful about calling her that it just seemed odd. Now that I understand it started from her students calling her by Mrs Rosemary it makes more sense.
Not only were they great theatres but I had forgotten those legendary block marquees. They should have added a 3rd one for the triplexing but instead put that abortion that is there now. At this point it’s all over anyways, its days are numbered.
Being a lifelong Forest Hills resident I have gone to this theatre all my life. It pains me to see the crap that is opening here. How is a center for the Bukharan community something that benefits the area? First the West Side Tennis Stadium, then the Forest Hills Theatre and now the Trylon. I’m ready to move to Great Neck :(
Is this Lombard or Peyton Place? I never was a big fan of saving a few historical elements of a theatre or a marquee or facade unless the place is structurally unsound or unsaveable. It’s sad in 2005 a good 45 years after the Roxy was demolished we are still letting this happen. In Europe they preserve treasures thousands of years old and here people want to tear down a great old theatre to build a Walmart or condos.
Could my post about Star Wars be removed? It seems to cause people to make snide and rude comments on the site.
That marquee has to be the stupidist thing I have ever seen, it looks like the Walgreens Cinema.

Why is a grown woman called Mrs Rosemary by grown people?
For a place closed 30 years those 2001 pictures don’t look bad. Was there a lot of water damage from 2001 to the time you saw it Warren?
