Elkton, 1953 — This Kodachrome slide of North Street is a wonderful view of the upper reaches of the business district in the county seat in the decade after World War II. On a busy street, it shows the Elk Soda Shop, the Elk Theatre, Sligh’s Men’s Store, the A&P, Supermarket, and the Dodge dealership.

This spectacular image is from the Dorothy Robinson Collection at the Historical Society. Argus Robinson, the president of People’s Bank, was the photographer and Dorothy Robinson, the local historian and president of the historical society (for many years) collected the images and used them in talks about the history of the town. After she passed away, her collection was donated to the Society and this is one fine example of the images Mr. Robinson captured with his Kodachrome slides.

Guodone, I recently posted this to the Odeon Sheffield CT page in Great Britain. It is the order form they used there for tickets by mail for “Oliver!”.

Flickr link with proper credit for the previously posted 1964 photo. rivest266 incorrectly believed it was 1968, but Marina City pictured opened to tenants in 1963. The square hotel portion on the left opened in 1964. Other aspects of the buildings were completed by 1968. I live in Chicago and ice skated at Marina City in the `60s.

Vicco Antique Mall has confirmed they are still open in the former Pastime Theatre building. The Google street view is incorrect in it’s depiction of Main Street in Vicco.

DavidZornig commented about Pastime Theater on Sep 16, 2020 at 11:18 am

Two 1937 photos added. The Pastime Theatre was two doors to the right of the State Theatre in the photos. The Pastime Theatre survived a March 11, 1938 fire that destroyed the neighboring 6 buildings to it’s left, including the State Theatre. Still awaiting confirmation from Vicco Antique Mall as to whether the former Pastime Theatre building they occupied is still standing.
