Good post ,Cajun.“MARTIN LUTHER” has a big ad in paper. It is also playing at Forest Hills drive-in.Admission was $1.13. three color cartoons.“Martin Luther” at the Augusta Drive-in.
June 3 1977 a summer date when most theatres are getting the summer movies. Not Columbia Two,booked in is the 60’s flick “WAIT UNTIL DARK"our City Manager in the newspaper ads is selling like "The Exorcist”, “The Omen"and"Carrie” all rolled up in one. Oh well, anything to sell a ticket.Re-released with a PG rating.June 17 1977 sees “THE DEEP” playing.Sept 16 1978 has “THUNDER AND LIGHTING” playing in Columbia One and also out at the Weis Drive-in. Oct.16 1977 “PAPILLION” is playing to no one while it airs that week on CBS. Nov.3 1978 “BORN AGAIN” is playing in Columbia One and my favorite marquee,“WHO IS KILLING THE GREAT CHEFS OF EUROPE?"is in Columbia Two.July 14 1978 we have "THE CHEAP DETECTIVE” and “CONVOY”.Jan 25 1980 has “PROMISES IN THE DARK”.playing.Feb 19 1982 repeats “REDS” and “CANNERY ROW” are showing. Columbia One got “WRATH OF KHAN” on July 2 1982, after thinking National Hills would get it.
Regency Mall Cinemas were the last to be built under Four Screens.Even at that time theatres were expanding to six or eight Screens.Nov.3 1978 a strange booking for a Midnight Movie Crowd,“AMERICAN GRAFFITI” is the film.Promoted on WZZW a easy listening Radio staion, which every few Late Show moviegoers would listen to.3 Stooges shorts. Dec.31 1979 “STAR TREK” is playing.Would have been great on the National Hills Theatre Screen. Feb 19 1982 “Taps” is on its last legs.March 5 1982 with “BEAST WITHIN"and "PRIVATE LESSONS” or more of a Modjeska Theatre Line up than GCC.When “ON Golden Pond” opens I start my job here at Regency working with Russ and Barry,I think Two Assistants and one Chief of Staff which seemed like Assistant Manager to me.But that was GCC.March 26 1982 and “MAKING LOVE” is playing I thought Locals might protest because of Subject matter, but not a soul showed up.I wondered if they realize how many Tickets protesters Sell.April 30 1982 and Taco Viva and DIXIE DOOLEY the “Master of Magic” put on a nice show for a Kiddie Show, the feature was a rather Violent “7th Voyage of Sinbad”.July 2 1982 and Regency gets a Dog for Summer and I don’t mean Benji, “MEGAFORCE” is a stinker.Clint is next door in “FIREFOX” with “Rocky III” most likely our highest grossing flick of the Summer.
August 27 1982 and “YOUNG DOCTORS IN LOVE” does turn away business with the Medical College here plenty of folks want to see this R rated comedy. Our Late shows that weekend included “NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD” “Pink Floyd” and one the G.I’s like from Fort Gordon,“SWORD and the SORCERER”.“On Golden Pond” i remembered I brought my old Girlfriend,Beverly Oglesby to see it,I guess to make up for all the Clint Eastwwod movies I made her watch in the mid seventies.
Looking over some old newspaper ads from 1968 and the WEIS Drive-in on the newspaper had written.“AMERICA’S FIRST DRIVE-IN with AIR CONDITION !”.June 1 1968.Just winder if it was a boost from a Theatre Manager.
Yes, I guess they were important since it doesn’t look like many were taken after it closed.I wish I would have had more film in the camera, but when I saw it from 285 i knew i had to get down there.Wish I would have had more time to grab a lot of the paper work on the floor.
Thanks nick,I guess you got the Columbia 1 and 2 picture up with my marquee.I wish so bad I would have taken many more pictures, thanks Again and CT for being here for our old memories.
Yes,And I think that close to the interstate and as Large as Knoxville is I would think one might make a go of it, really in a great location last time visited the area really hadn’t changed that much.

What’s Movie Star ? None around anymore except for a handful and most them are in their 80’s,Guys.
884 seems right today on seating since some have been removed,it was 881 or pretty close to it when i was the Assistant Mgr.
No way this theatre had 550 seats maybe a little over 100,it was built down in a a large basement.
I don’t believe this theatre ever held over 400 seats,100 at the most.
Still searching, afraid some of these old theatres are just gone,Bob.
31 screens in one location.that is the reason cinema treasures exists in my book.
Drop the “TRANSFORMERS” put a Christopher Lee Flick in instead, any Hammer Film will do.
AlinNyc,you weren’t kidding about a Burger King, guess rent is so high it was a cheap spot to sell Burgers. Not that I would eat one there.LOL.
