Those return engagements Danny mentioned are replacing Apollo 18 and Shark Night. I imagine they could have just booked Gigli to replace those and done just as well.
Some notable exclusive engagements late in its life were Return of the Jedi and Romancing the Stone. GCC played a lot of Fox and Universal films in the day.
I think beyond ticket sales, Disney uses the El Capitan like a giant billboard to advertise its films. Millions see it on as tourists or on TV (Jimmy Kimmel?) etc.
What the Chinese needs is a lesson in showmanship and showcasing a film from the folks at the El Capitan. They need to lure a studio, WB, Paramount, Universal whoever into partnering with the venue to showcase studio product. Plus they could have the added feature of the Chinese 6 as a move-over house as new product is showcased at the Chinese.
Does Mann own any of these remaining theaters or are they leased?
I would think Regency would be too small potatoes to be a booker for the Chinese, especially if Mann can’t fight the Arclight. Would need to be somebody big.
Hopefully the Chinese can start booking better things than Horror Films and Family Films that the Arclight doesn’t want.

Bet they can’t wait to get rid of “Arthur”. I hope that film helps put the brakes on lame remakes of great movies.
