AKA:

TRANS-LUX CINE.

I THINK it was owned by Trans-Lux and booked by Harry Brant of New York City.

It was designed to be run by only 2 employees, one manager-projectionist and one cashier-concession employee.

Mike, thanks for the info, I found the Sonic, at 226 East Hill Street and just down the road a bit the junction of 17 and 78. I went east on the Google Satellite for a distance, but found no sign of the remains of a drive-in, so sad.

Chas, thanks for, the info. I looked at the Google photo where Pittman hits 18 and you sure can’t see any sign of a drive-in, how sad.

Ret. AKC (NAC) CCC Bob Jensen, Manteno, Illinois commented about Cinerama Theatre on May 9, 2010 at 9:20 am

Mark, I’m guessing this is a typo, cause I don’t know of CINERAMA ever having a 164 degree screen. I’ve checked elsewhere and this theater had a 146 degree screen.

This theater showed 70mm CINERAMA from 3 December 1964 to 23 January 1984.

Do you know if there is now a multiplex on the site?

Any chance of coming up with a full address?

At any rate, thanks for adding a CINERAMA Theater to Cinema Treasures!

I followed Highway 18 from Sherdian to Willamina on the Gooogle Satellite Photo and could find no sign of a demolished drive-in, anyone know the exact address or crossroad?

Did Mr. Hibbert have anything to do with McMinnville Ammusement Company?

Open from ABOUT 1940-1964, can anyone come up with any different dates?

This theater was owned by McMinnville Amusement Company from 1955-1964.

Nick, GREAT write up, CONGRATS! If only every theater on Cinema Treasures had a story like this.

It’s bad enough when they twin a theater, but I really hate it when they don’t even bother to change the angle of the seats after they put the wall down the middle.

Ret. AKC (NAC) CCC Bob Jensen, Manteno, Illinois commented about Northgate 4 on May 8, 2010 at 6:19 pm

Does anyone know, did it start out as 1 theater, then 2, then 3, then 4?

When I look at the Google Map Photo of the stores, which part is the theaters?

Can anyone come up with an address or at least the crossroads of this drive-in?

I THINK it was open from ABOUT 1950-1980, if you find out different, let us know.

I heard it had a home in the screen tower, is that true?

I followed the Google Map Photo along Highway 64 from Siler City west to Ranseur, the next town, and didn’t really see any remains of a drive-in. Anyone else have any better luck? Better yet, does anyone know the exact location?

I understand the drive-in held 190 autos.

Thank You

Please forgive me, I know this is off topic, but it’s so close I’ve just got to mention it, it’s just accross the street and a bit southeast of these theaters. If you like trains like I do, or even if you dont’t the #2 train store in the USA is waiting for you (they even have an outdoor track) it’s really a fun place to see!

United Artists Theaters owned these theaters.

The only 2 names I can come up with are:

Chapel Hill Road Drive-In, with 2 different roads mentioned, Chapel Hill Road and Highway 15, which are the same road, I think?

Valley Drive-In on Durham-Chapel Hill Road, which again, I think is the same road?

PLEASE CHANGE ADDRESS TO:

1060 U.S. 69, FRONTENAC KS 66763

Thank You

Frontenac is the town right next door to the north of Pittsburg.

You can clearly see the remains of the old Pittsburg Drive-In in the Google Photo.

How do I know it’s the Pittsburg Drive-In? Somewhere I saw an areial photo of the drive-in and somewhere I read that the drive-in was 3 miles north of Pittsburg. I sure that’s it.

What do you think?

Ret. AKC (NAC) CCC Bob Jensen, Manteno, Illinois commented about Stardust Drive-In on May 4, 2010 at 6:27 pm

Right now you can see the site a bit up the street from the red dot. If the drive-in site ever gets built on you will never know where the site was.

Perhaps a better address would be 230 Athens Street.

In 2000 the drive-in was aquired by Classic Theaters Inc.
