saw american hustle in theater #3 (one of the smaller auditoriums that is straight across from the men’s restroom) and while i enjoyed the movie (not as good as silver linings playbook) and its soundtrack i thought the theater dimmed the projection to save light life. One thing I noticed…the Real D recycling bin, which meant that this theater had Real D lenses. Also the masking was a bit off.

They are not a flagship theater like the amc garden state 16 with its luxurious seating, AMC ETX with Atmos, and the largest digital IMAX screen inside a 16 plex seat wide in NJ. That theater is always packed and get the indie movies first as it is with Her when it came out a few weeks ago. They also have reserved seating, which this theater doesn’t have. Also, sometimes the ticketing machines won’t work due to computer glitches.

Gravity returns to AMC in Rockaway, but in RealD 3D only, according to advance showtimes on Fandango. This is because the IMAX is showing Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit which I don’t care for. I plan on seeing American Hustle this weekend before it leaves the theaters due to its awards buzz.

Most studios will soon follow suit. I know at my local amc in rockaway with digital prints they can show more trailers than on film. This is why like 10 years from now digital will overtake 35mm film as the go to for presenting movies. That’s when the cost of upgrading screens to digital will go down.

saw the youtube video. Can’t believe this theater will turn 20 later this year…still the best place to see an Imax movie in the NYC tri-state area. I remember going here a few months after it opened to see Across the Sea of Time which was my first Imax 3D movie and enjoyed the presentation. Ticket prices have gone up since then but the Imax is still the same. I never go to the other screens since they show the same stuff as most multiplexes although sometimes they show exclusive engagements before wide release, such as Lone Survivor which is doing gangbusters at the box office this weekend. No wonder why this theater as well as the Ziegfield host big premieres for big movies.

Happy New Year’s Eve!!! Went to see “Smaug” in Imax 3d. While I enjoyed the movie (huge improvement over “Unexpected Journey”) I thought the action was blurry compared with the high resolution close ups of the characters despite the excellent surround sound (especially when Smuag appears on screen). Pretty weird that AMC started their main previews and trailers with the no cellphones/movie start trailer and then the welcome to amc trailer before the AMC Lone Survivor long preview followed by a few trailers. Kinda annoying when at the end of Smaug the lights brighten up before credits roll. Also some crumbs of popcorn on the row where i sat. That’s what $13 gets you, lol.

i was around five years old when Die Hard first came out. That movie i would watch later on as the fourth die hard came out i watched all three die hard movies in order. The fourth one was good but the fifth one was bad. Will not see Die Hard 6. Never saw Funny Girl, saw bits and pieces of Cleo (thought it was boring), American Graffiti was good, I’ve seen every James Bond movie, Superman I love (on par with Man of Steel). 25 years ago this holiday season i saw Land Before Time, which is the first movie i can remember seeing at the theater (dad knows it was a reissue of Snow White in 1987). 10 years ago it was Return of the King.

As a kid, I always wanted to see “Cats” on broadway based on the memorable ads on tv with the yellow cats' eyes and the footage from the musical. When I saw it on tv, i thought it was silly.

I know where TGI Friday’s is..but didn’t know that the famous Roxy theater was once in that restaurant. It’s probably one of the bigger ones in the tri-state area owned by the franchise.

Merry belated xmas…and happy belated 31st to me!!! May 2014 bring hope and success for the movie theater industry. 2014 will be the first full year that nearly every theater will be digital yet some movies are still shot on 35mm film then converted to digital for cinema use (2d and 3d).

Next year on April 25 marks 35 years since the Hall’s schedule changed to mostly live events and less movies, and 15 years since the last time it was renovated.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Rockaway Inner 6/Outer 6 on Dec 13, 2013 at 2:38 pm

makes sense. The Outers had bigger theaters with better projection and the latest in surround sound, while the inners had mono sound and smaller screens since it was in a moderate sized mall.

Just came back from seeing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in regular rather than IMAX since it was the earliest show and enjoyed the movie very much. Seems that AMC came out with new policy trailers which are great. Too many previews I agree. The projection and sound were top notch although the bottom of the widescreen was a little cut off, just a minor flaw of the curtain machine. This movie has good word of mouth.
