To call the Egyptian run down at it’s sad UA end is actually a compliment. It was WORSE then the 42nd St houses in their waning days. I never got to see the Criterion again after they made it a sixplex. As a twin it was not horrible compared to the things we have now, at least the auditoriums were large. How small were the basement theatres? By the way I think the only theatre that survived twinning and was still a class house was the original Loews State. The upstairs theatre contained the whole original house except for under the balcony where they built the new auditorium.
It’s funny because as I read this I am filling in for someone in another office that is right next door to the former Brooklyn Paramount. This area is much improved over a few years ago and I don’t think people would be afraid anymore to come down here.
My friend just told me Howard Johnsons is closing. I never understood why they did not play on the retro fever so popular a few years ago and renovate this place.

I believe the upstairs screen had curtains also.
I would love to know if this wall was smooth or did you actually see the shape of the bricks. It all sounds so bizzare.
Wow what’s the story with Hello Dolly being revived three years in a row?

What a great place, too bad it’s closed.

Was that the same Little Prince that opened at the Music Hall?
Well that was just the temporary Cinerama screen, I’m talking about a permanant curved screen to use for all formats.
