Scott is correct. Blumenfeld had their own ads at one point in the Sf Chronicle and SJ Mercury News. They also owned the 3 Regency theaters in SF, Alhambra and Royal also in SF as well as the Notorious MQ6 in San Jose and the Tiburon Playhouse 3.

jwmovies commented about Vallejo Plaza 6 on Mar 12, 2022 at 5:23 pm

Through research I found this several tidbits…

1) Larwin Plaza (precursor to Vallejo Plaza was opened the year I was born 1962 (God I’m old! 😁😁😁).It actually had a Sears inside.

2) Larwin (named after the finance company the put up the money) changed its name to Vallejo to distinguish it from the massive Solano Mall (now Town Center) in 1981.

AMC built theater the same year. AM Vallejo Plaza time line 1981-2001. BTW you’re welcome! 😍

jwmovies commented about Regency Cinemas on Mar 11, 2022 at 7:48 am

During its tenure, Regency added another screen. Please update 6 screens. It is identical to the Regency 6 in San Rafael (still open i might add) and the Festival 6 in Hayward (until it blew up to 9 screens!).

Incorrect Rivest! There were 4 (!) Adult Drive ins in Northern California…

1) the Midway/Sonomarin in Petaluma

2) Westlane in Davis

3) Parkway also in Petaluma

4) the Notorious SJAM San Josè Auto Movie

Outside of NorCal: Vista, Malaga/Fresno, Oaks/Pussycat (!) in Paso Robles. There wre many more that x rated non porn also….😍😍😍

jwmovies commented about Rialto 4 Cinemas on Mar 4, 2022 at 10:06 am

I saw Warhol’s Frankenstein and Dracula, Caligula, Salo and oddly enough Hitchcock’s The Trouble with Harry W/Shirley MacLaine in her film debut here! The rancid stale popcorn and overstuffed seats bring back disgusting yet weirdly pleasanf memories! PS Salo is THE most gag inducing tripe in film history! Makes Texas chainsaw look like The Rescuers! ☺☺

According to Mick laSalle film critic for SFChronicle, there may be smore lives in this Cat!

There talk around the bay and Berkeley of several options: UC(live venue), Esquire(repurposed IMAX), Mission(revamp via Alamo) or indepepent (think Santa Cruz 9 or Campbell Pruneyard 7). Whatever option they need at least 1 elevator! That balcony is extemely steep! Yikes! 😘😘

jwmovies commented about Pacific Winnetka 12 & XD on Mar 2, 2022 at 1:14 am

Like I reported on the Winnetka D/I entry, Robert is right. Like the drive i, this hardtop will be demolished AGAIN! And like Tanforan in San Bruno, for warehouses and expensive condos! WHAT AN OBSCENE WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY! 😭😭

jwmovies
jwmovies commented about Winnetka 6 Drive-In on Mar 2, 2022 at 1:09 am

The devolution of this location is shock8ng and sad!

1975: Opens with 4 screens (just like Union City, Capitol San Jose, Sacramento, Winchester Campbell, South Bay Carson and Stadium Orange typical Century/Pacific drive ins).

1985: Opens with six screens just like the otbers except Stadium which went 8 screens).

1996: Winnetka D/I demolished for Pacific Winnetka 21 hardtop. Union City and Stadium went the same way in 1998.

2010: Winnetka 21 is reduced to Winnetka 12 closing one wing of the building (think AMC Covina 30 and AMC Deer Valley 30 (AZ) to 17 screens!)

2022: Since Decurion/Pacific gave up during the pandemic, it will now be demolished AGAIN(!!!) for another Amazon Distribution plant! We need this like a toothache!

Where’s the replacemt? NORTHRIDGE 10 AND PORTER RANCN 9 WILL NOT DO! This is what happened in Valencia - 12. Meanwhile Burbank (30), Long Beach (51!), Ontario (66!), Orange (55), Irvine (54) and Glendale (36) are spectacularly 9verscreened!

It’s almost like they don’t care! Demolish this demolish that!

Ok rant off…sigh πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί

jwmovies commented about Cinemark Century at Tanforan and XD on Feb 25, 2022 at 6:16 pm

Sorry Scott. Per San Francisco Examiner, KPIX, KGO and Oakland Tribune, THIS THEATRE ALONG WITH THE MALL WILL BE CLOSED FOR GOOD! There’s a reason Cinemark opened new locations in Roseville (Galleria Mall 14) and Merced (Mall of Merced 14)! Cut your losses and move on! That’s what happened with the Empire also.

jwmovies
jwmovies commented about AMC Palm Promenade 24 on Feb 25, 2022 at 8:27 am

AMC Entertainment has been VERY schizo since the pandemic i.e. Apple Valley is a dumpster fire, Bay Street is still goinng strong and Kabuki = DISGUSTING!

That said: What has been said previously still holds true…

AMC CLASSIC PALM PROMENADE 14 PLEASE UPDATE ASAP!

Not only is there only 14 screens per San Diego Theatre Reviews AND AMC app and website but IMAX is $12.49 (THAT IS NOT TYPO FOLKS!!!) for 11pm on 3/5/22 for the Batman! Also not a typo! The North Wing is still MIA I’m afraid…Sell outs will happen. It’s no better than Montclair or Sunnyvale (dine in circus atmosphere).

THIS IS WHAG HAPPENS WHEN YOU HAVE TOO MANY SCREENS! YOU HEAR THAT TORRANCE, ONTARIO AND ORANGE? 55 screens (orange) is too much! Ok rant off ☺☺

Unfortunaly this magnificent multiplex is closing FOR GOOD! πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί

I just several news report that The Shops At Tanforan were closing permanantly to make way for a biotech campus (WINCHESTER DRICE IN I CAMPBELL I’M LOOKING AT YOU!). Most all of the property except the covered BART station will be demolished! AGAIN! Too bad. πŸ˜”

jwmovies
jwmovies commented about Century Capitol 16 on Feb 8, 2022 at 5:43 am

Unfortunately Cinemark has chosen to close Roseville (Eureka Rd/Lead Hill) across from Kaiser to open the newer Galleria Mall futher west with the same amount of screens and more control (it’s in the middle of the mall) SOOOOO no more domes for Sacramento! All that’s left is Century Mountain View (relic) and Cinedome Henderson Nevada (fossil). Too bad! I pass by thd Winchester domes and thd church (Century 24) all the time. What a waste!πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί

jwmovies commented about Bridgehead 1-2-3 Drive-In on Feb 6, 2022 at 7:15 am

Again as I had posted on the Los Altos D/I (Long Beach) page, ths KMart that replaced the drive in is permanantly closed. Not because of bankruptcy unless bankruptcy and COVID19 mean the same thing!

Apparently this type of thing has been going on for years all the country… too bad! 🀣🀣

jwmovies commented about Riverside Drive-In on Apr 24, 2019 at 11:06 pm

The address above is incorrect. Tom is correct. The address for this theater is 1180 US-52, Aberdeen, OH 45101. The entrance and exit roads are still being used for the mobile homes. If you look at current aerials, this actually looks like it was a drive in including the turnout road common with older drive in theaters.

Please update.
