Hey Ken. On this one I am having to rely on info from the Hobbs public library. It says the Frontier was “put in” in 1952 which may explain it not being in the 1950 FDY. Which by the way is the only sentence devoted to the Frontier. However, it does mention separately a “DERRICK” and a “RIG” theater along with a few more theaters that came and went in Hobbs' history as an oil boom town. I did check with a cousin and former long time resident who only recalls it as the Frontier, however, experience tells me all this could change with the next comment that may come this way. Thanks for your reply!

Oops!! I can now see that the posting by lostmemory is the OKC Redskin minus the Indians on top of the sign. I wonder what happened to them. I have been in touch with a man in Austin who thinks the entire sign was salvaged. Thanks everyone. See two of my Redskin pix here:
Thanks lostmemory. The Tiger was a drive in. The info that I dug up says it was located around 25th and College or the Colorado City highway. College turns into highway 84, connects with 208 and leads to Colorado City.
If anyone recalls Jennifer Jones a screen star from the past and one time wife of David O Selznik, it turns out that her father built the Tiger.
I recently received a nice email from the owner of the Rig. He gave me a little history and mentioned that the theater has been in the family for a long time. The best news is that he put a new roof on on the building in 2004.
Hello lostmemory and thanks for your comment! A reply to Seth’s posting of the TEXAS theater in Ballinger appears to indicate that there was at one time, two separate drive ins there. Also the lady I spoke with kept referring to what is currently the TEXAS, as the PALACE, which lead me to beleive she knew what she was talking about. I am always very reluctant to post a theater that I have not personally seen, photographed, touched, or seen evidence of, but felt like the HORSESHOE had indeed been in Ballinger.
Good find! I photographed this one years ago on a trip through New Mexico, but now cannot find the pictures.

Unless there were ever two Redskin Theaters in OKC, the one in the above post is not from Oklahoma City.

The ultra-rich Dallasite, Ray Nasher, tore this theater down to make way for a Nordstroms department store.
In its last few years, among many other movies, it screened “GIANT” and “Gone with the Wind” and brought in some of the original cast members.
