We opened the balcony on weekends and peak times in the summer. In fact a few times in the real dead of winter we would open the balcony and not the orchestra. The blacony had 125 seats and the orchestra 525.
With the lack of East side screens right now and more when they destroy Cinema 1 & 2 they could actually get first run product here. This listing should also be updated to include the other name of Art East. What was it,s name as porno was it East World?
I remember one of my friends who lived in Murray Hill at the time begged his mother into taking him to a double horror bill. The main feature was that snake film SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
Im confused about the above post, I don’t recall anyone but Loew’s running the King’s?
That is the most bizzare picture of those seats, did anyone ever go there when they were in use?

With summer coming this is an odd time to drop matinees?
Is this independent?
The repetory was for a short time but this theatre was always a Trans-Lux house.
I saw Napoleon there also with my dad in the 80’s.

I remember walking by this many times, I had forgotten all about it until reading this post.
Here is the original press release from when they were going to carve this up as a Magic Johnson Cinema.

Sad that in New York we can’t save any theatres :(
When this was Cinema 35 I remember a small marquee on the road.
WOW I never heard of this theatre, I would love to hear more details.
I think it was from the Coca-Cola Company. No it played all over in the various chains and independants.
WOW, I wish I had a picture of the place for old times sake. Remember their marquee letter’s were the old metal ones?
I love the NY Mirror review…..LOL. I bet by todays’s standards this would be G rated.

I remember those Snack Canyon snipes.
Very sad
Can you imagine showing The Jetsons with no concession stand, a lot of unhappy kids.
The status here has to be changed to closed.
I thought the marquee fell off in the middle of the night? They now have a flat one against the building.

Thanks for reminding me about the oval design in the ceiling, I had forgotten all about that. I still miss this place.
Someone should re-open this I think it stands a shot at making it again.
