Until Garth came to town there were no major theater renovations in nyc theaters all chains were milking the public..This is when the nyc theater boom began!
One of the few theaters i ever sar back before big multiplexs that was almost always busy..Still open the old RKO RVC TWIN is still like that . (the sister theater to commack)
The Elwood is located in the Elwod shopping center .This twin is one of the few indi theaters that still does well on longisland. The only local theater to last since commack multiplex opened so many years ago.For years this theater was owned by a dentist Sid Cinatar who aslo owned the hicksville and one or two other houses. They went under the name TOWN AND COUNTRY.This theater is only a twin…The shopping center is very small maybe 12 stores and the theater wich is now next to starbucks.
I looked at buying this theater in 87 (it was closed then)all the seats were gone it was to be a club but the people ran out of money. This closed about 1985.
