On an ad for “There Be Dragons”, this theater is incorrectly listed as “Mansfield 16”. Oops. I read that in the New York Times' Arts and Leisure section.
One cool thing about this theater is that they keep running art house movies longer than in Rockaway due to its affluent location. It has been five+ years since I first went to this theater, and it’s my second favorite AMC theater behind the one in Rockaway.
nearly 10 years ago was the last time General Cinema owned this theater, the following year, AMC took over and removed all references to General Cinema, including the famous policy trailers. Do they still show the trailer before the trailers begin in which at the end there’s a map of the theater with glowing exits? That was the unique thing about this theater when it first opened.
Coming this weekend, Priest 3D. It was first shot in 4k 2D then converted into fake 3D….this movie will do worse than Blade Trinity. Bridesmaids will do good business for female moviegoers this weekend, it will do for women what Wedding Crashers did for guys. I can’t wait to see “The Hangover Part II” at this theater since I missed out on enjoying the first one (I eventually saw it on DVD). JJD, have you seen any good films yet at this theater?
amazing….I actually go by that theater when I’m in Times Square but never been there due to its expensive prices and long lines…good thing I live near an AMC theater that is not as busy as this one yet has plenty of parking around it compared to parking in a lot then walking all the way to the theater.
I went to see Fast Five last night at a nearly packed house in IMAX. Prior to each showing they have a line barrier for those wait in line to get their seats after they purchase the ticket. Once we got in, I sat all the way up to the second-to-back row of the theater, in middle row. The preshow frame was projected smaller on the screen, more to the upper left corner of the screen rather than fill the IMAX screen. During transitions from preshow to don’t talk on the phone, there was a blue screen, which was kinda annoying. The trailers didn’t use up the full ratio of the imax screen, just in scope. The movie looked and sounded good on the IMAX screen, and the audience behaved and cheered well. Watch after the main credits for a bonus scene!!!
This weekend, Fast Five will crush the competition. I plan on seeing this movie in IMAX tomorrow night if it’s not sold out. Even though it’s not filmed in IMAX, I can be sucked into the picture and car noises amped up to the max.
The Chinese Theatre is the most famous movies-only theater in the world, with its famous exterior resembling a chinese palace. It has been parodied in cartoons and other forms of media, and I hope the new owners continue to preserve the heritage of this great movie palace for years to come.
Other than Thor, advance tickets are on sale for Pirates 4, which was shot in 3D. I’ll probably see it in RealD 3D rather than pay more for IMAX 3D, which is essentially a blown-up version of the scope film.
Imagine if they auctioned off the famous Century signage on the building on Ebay….that would cost a lot of money. Instead, they demolished the theater inside and out. It became an eyesore for commuters on Route 17 heading towards the GSP before its untimely demise. What sound systems did this theater use pre and post multiplexing?
50 seats is quite small….how many seats for each auditorium?
I agree. Plus the audience stayed after the main credits for the surprise ending. Advance tickets on sale for Hangover Part II.

Should be great……
For those who don’t want to see Thor in fake 3D and Liemax 3D, there’s a 2D version.
I think it was because of Free Movie Tuesday yesterday, shanahan.

When you said Booker-T I thought of the wrestler. LOL.

Happy easter!!!
HOpefully DisneyNature comes out with its first IMAX feature since most of its releases are 2D 35mm features.

Terrible.
Ur welcome jjd

No movie is playing this weekend at this theater for two weeks until “Thor” in fake 3D opens.
Was Cinema 35 named for the 35mm projector that this theater used?
Sfldd, was this on Route 17 or Route 4 or another highway when this happened?

But what if there’s no Super Bowl if the lockout begins? Then people won’t come….
