I never got to see the Calderone as a 7-plex. What was the layout like? I was suprised that a multi-plex there did not make it. Was it a cheapo plexing job that did it in?
I don’t believe for a minute that something is not up with Cinema 1-2-3. City Cinemas may not have a buyer now but for sure they are preventing landmark status by smearing the place with concrete. Remember the Rivoli UA ruined the front a few years before they closed it.
I saw a film here last summer and the theatre was still very clean and well maintained. That was a few months ago and things can change in a short time.

I so could care less. I have been blessed to have seen movies in the Rivoli, RKO Cinerama, Loews State, Radio City Music Hall, Criterion, Syosset, Syosset D-150, The Chinese Theatre, The Egyptian, Cinerama Dome and countless others, keep your address.
Nick Justin who owned the theatre also had a financial interest in this film as well as many others starring Jack Wrangler. The film was filmed at the theatre during off hours when it was closed to the public.

When I mentioned the Star Wars films in 70mm I was thinking a day each. I agree it would never play a week, although maybe a triple 70mm show would last a whole week. I can imagine the lines at prime shows would be crazy because there would be almost no turnover.
longislandmovies, when I first read about this theatre I was going to write the SAME THING. I feel all theatres belong on here, whos to say which to leave off. Many old palaces survived because they were porno for many years.

Thanks for sharing those pics. I forgot to post that recently I saw a picture of Times Square on New Years Eve, I believe 1958. Loews State is playing an Alan Freed stage show and picture combo. I cant make out the name of the movie, but what suprised me was I never knew any of the Freed shows played the State.
I went today to buy tickets at Westbury Music Fair (actually it’s new corporate name is Northfork Music fair)so I swung by the Westbury. The roof is covered with tarps nailed down to keep them from blowing away. I peeked in the lobby and nothing seems different except a lot of plaster and drop ceiling have fallen from the water leaking. The sides of the marquee have had the letters saying “Support the Westbury Performing Arts Center” removed, but the front still says “God Bless America”. All of the stores are empty, as is the apartments upstairs. It looked very sad and forgotten.
It’s nice we have the lonely shut in’s who have nothing better to do then nitpick over other peoples postings. “Mr. Perfect” should spend more time in Jamaica and tell us all about this “true cinema treasure”.
I am a huge Jennifer Jones fan, I just bought the DVD of “Ruby Gentry” and love how they mention “poor Ruby’s from the wrong side of the tracks”. Anyone know where that opened on Broadway?
Who ran this theatre after 1969 when Loews dropped it?
I won’t give City Cinemas a dime of my movie going money.

Theres a better chance of this coming back to life then Loews Kings.
To loose this place would be a sin.

Was that still under the Century’s management at that time?

Was this a closed theatre before it became the Seaford 6?

Bravo I agree 100%, a theatre is a theatre.

Yup I actually saw Jack and Margaret sitting together one night at the Cafe Carlyle when Eartha Kitt was playing. Ah New York :)
I loved this theatre and the D-150. They will never be able to be replaced.

Oh gosh he’s one of those Ridgewood Folly psychos. Or is he the one who wanted everything turned into an opera house?
Was “Tony” the owner? It just seems a strange name for a theatre.
What an awesome facade, do they ever talk about fixing this up?
Has it just been sitting empty the last 20 years?

Proper research on your part would have told you that National Amusements has altered the name since it opened.
