It’s been announced today that Omniplex Cinemas have acquired the former Wigan Empire and are spending £3.5 million to bring it up to snuff. It’s expected to reopen in the summer.
And in early August 1996, the cinema hosted the UK premiere of the Arnold Schwarzenegger action flick “Eraser”. All the stars were there. Even Arnie turned up (even if he didn’t stick around for the film itself).
Showcase Liverpool was refurbished to Cinema de Lux standard in spring 2019, with work completed in July. The cinema now has a new lounge bar, an increased choice of food and drinks at the concession stand, and customisable leather recliner seats in every screen as standard.
