It’s good to see Seaford has reopened since Merrick Cinemas has closed. It still looks the same after it reopened & very well kept. It’s the cheapest place to see a movie nowadays-$9 for most shows $5 matinees. The staff is nice & very accommodating. It’s worth the trip.
Very sad to see this theater go. This was one of the cheapest places to see a movie in Nassau County. This independent theater was cheaper than the chain theaters after Seaford closed-$10 weekend nights + there were matinees that were even cheaper. I wonder what’s next for the theater after the closure. This lasted about 20 years.
It’s the same operator as the Main Street Cinemas in Kew Garden Hills, Islip Cinemas and Grand Ave Cinemas. https://theislandnow.com/featured/manhasset-roslyn-theaters-reopen-under-new-operator/

This is now a second run discount theater still operated by Empire Cineplex. The only one in the NY Tri State Area since the South Hills 8 in Poughkeepsie, NY also operated by Empire Cineplex has closed in Feb. Tickets are now $3.50. You can’t get this price anywhere in this area.
Correction to last note, it was not renovated as of yet but renos under new ownership is coming soon according to a staff member. The old auditorium 2 was split up into auds 2 & 3 (non-stadium seated). Auds 1 & 5 are stadium seated. Auds 2, 3 & 4 are not stadium seated. It is still a good movie going experience. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Prices are still cheap-$10, $7-matinees, $6-Wednesdays. Theater is still well kept. Worth coming back again. :)
I went past the movie theater today and it looks like it has been reopened. It’s still a 5plex. It has reopened in late December under new management. I don’t know if it’s still owned by JJ (owners of the Bellmore Playhouse) or the new owners of Seaford. The netsite is merrickcinemas5.com and they have a Facebook page. Please update the listing.
Please update your listing. The theater is now closed for renovations as of Oct. 23 of this year. Looks like this theater will be getting reclining seats as has Bellmore and Seaford nearby.
The theater is now owned by Jay Levinson and his mini JJ chain which own the Bellmore Playhouse, Merrick Cinemas, Elwood and Sayville. Not sure if he owns the Teaneck or Kinnelon in NJ. He use to own the Glen Cove but that’s going to AMC. This theater has been around forever, even before I was born. I never been to this theater but I been to JJ’s other theaters in Bellmore and Merrick and are worth going to. I wanna see how it looks once JJ finishes renovation. You can take a look at the South Bay Facebook page on the progress of the reno.
The theater has been renovated with new reclining seats as of Feb of this year. All the marquees to each of the 10 theaters is computerized. Bathrooms have also been renovated. Everything has AMC signage except the front marquee which shows Loews. Regular admission is now $11.49 and you need to reserve your seats. You should see for yourself. It was long overdue for renovations. This is the 3rd theater in LI with reclining seats-Broadway Multiplex and Regal Ronkonkoma are the other 2 and AMC Roosevelt Field is next. It was an awesome experience coming to this theater and me and my friends are doing this again. One of my favorite theaters in Nassau County.
Renovations look nice. Those look like Bellmore Playhouse seats & operated by the same people

I was at the shopping center a couple of weeks ago. It’s still boarded up. This is the same owner as the Bellmore Playhouse-JJ.

Theater is now permanently closed as of 10/20 per Newsday. The owner could not renew the lease of this theater. Another casualty of this pandemic.
Looks like the new owners are JJ (Bellmore Playhouse, Elwood).
It was a second run discount theater, one of the only ones in the NYC suburbs but became first run about 5 years ago.

Theater will be under new management on 1/1/19. It will now be owned by Apple Cinemas (Waterbury, Barkhamstead, CT & Cambridge MA)
