I’ve been looking for the name of this thater for over 40 years – As a Chicago boy visiting my grandparent in Lynwood, I would walk to this theater and enjoy great movies such as The Fly, Ben-Hur, and The Giant Claw. More importantly, however, it was here that at age 10 I discovered the enjoyment of talking to girls.
Six aisles, expansive balcony, 25 (count'em) cartoons on Saturday, triple features – all for 25 cents! Remember the “floating” skeleton for “House on Haunted Hill” or the vibrating seats for “the Tingler”? Remember George, the manager?
The notorious case of the Grimes sisters, found murdered in the forest preserves in 1957, began at the Brighton theater as the girls attended an Elvis movie.
Nope! That was the Archer Theater at 2010 W 35th Street-building still there, but a business instead. About a block from Archer-Damen.
