I remember with great affection the Forum Cinema with beautiful oblong proscenium
mr Segers was the manager for manny years, the light fitting were still present until it failed as a Bingo hall and was spoiled by being turned into a night club. The proscenium was really a work of art. The projectors sound system ware western electric with the original sound on disk bases for the projectors. the projection room had a lower level and very awkward working space. Naughty Boy one evening when I was about 9 years old I left a side exit surreptitiously and discovered a metal cage out side the building with an amazing globe glowing purple in the dark. I was puzzled thank heavens I didn’t poke the globe with a stick. I wouldn’t be here if I had lol and the scene would go dark
I remember the Savoy as a child in the 1950 mrs Lavis was the manager and Douglas Hedges was the proprietor of the circuit who ran the Grand/ the forum and savoy and other cinemas in Culompton Teighmouth etc. remember especially seeing the Ten Commandment at the Savoy. The Forum was converted into a bingo hall in about 1962 remember seeing the first James Bond there and it closed soon after. as an apprentice electrician I had the sad task of isolating the electrics in the projection box and seeing the old projectors with the universal bases. the projectors were scraped by the wonderful guy in four street and that’s another tail. I took a few pictures of the Forum as a Bingo hall and some of the Grand being demolished in the 1980s
