In the Devon resort of Exmouth, at the mouth of the River Exe, the New Picture House appears for the first time in the Kinematograph Year Book of 1923.
By the 1931 edition the proprietor and resident manager was shown as Leslie B. Thomas. The 1940 KYB still had Mr. Thomas in charge; the seating capacity was given as 517.
By the 1953 edition the owner was shown as Forum (Exmouth) Ltd. and the cinema had been renamed the Forum Cinema. Presumably some refurbishment/alterations had been carried out, as the seating capacity was now shown as 399.
The Forum Cinema did not appear in the 1969 KYB, so presumably closed before then. The building moved over to bingo, and today (November 2015), as it did when I visited, in December 2001, it houses the Elite Social Club.
