I guess at that time it was really difficult to travel for any other purpose with a business and cinema. Two world wards, danger and poverty made it almost impossible. But now you can go anywhere, even in Scotland!
Even in Scotland? It is not Antarctica, you can reach it easily. Just buy tickets to Edinburgh. Even though in the Highlands the buses are not as developed mode of travel as the capital, you can book Scottish Jeep Tours and they will take you around in their wonderful cars. Believe me, you will like the trip.
