The theatre has been sold and the new owners are using it as a live music venue. Most of the acts are of the alternative music variety.
The theaters were classic cracker-box style, no ornamentation at all. Still, I have good memories of seeing ET and Out of Africa at the Eastland.
These cinemas closed in early 2010. Carmike – which purchased GKC – didn’t invest much in maintaining the facility so it was no surprise when it closed.
I saw several films at the Peru in the 60s and 70s. If my memory serves me correctly I think the interior style was atmospheric.
