@ACS12 Unfortunately, I read on twitter from an imax executive lincoln square removed the projector. I suppose they could just get another projector though it seems unlikely
Yeah if they had kept the 70mm projector, star wars the force awakens would have been shown in the format. Also heard at one point on twitter from an imax marketing executive that the projector has been removed.
I wouldn’t have really a huge problem over projection had star wars episode 7 not shot anything in imax (since even though 70mm film has a bigger screeni image, the aspect ratio remains the same for the non imax parts as in the regular). Problem is that this does indeed have at least the climax shot in imax and that shows more image than in the theatrical release. Digital Imax (the xenon non laser system) won’t be able to show all of it. I just find it BS NYC won’t have a chance to experience it JJ intended.
Imax did a print for interstellar for lincoln square though. And once word of mouth leaks that it’s not in film at Lincoln square., some may opt to cancel sales in favor of a different theater.
If you want to see this in 70mm at lincoln square, please send your tweets to this @eileenatimax. She usually responds to every post and enough of you could cause her to change her mind.

I got a letter saying it was disneys decision about the 70mm.
Dear Chris,
This is a Disney studio decision. The Lincoln Square cinema is in the process of upgrading to IMAX laser, but it will not be completed for Star Wars.
There will be a handful of 70mm prints in 2D. Please visit our website or click here for a current list of the locations.
