This was the location of the L.A. Conservancy’s first screening in Beverly Hills during their annual Last Remaining Seats program. There were two showings of “The Wizard of Oz,” at this theater on Saturday, June 30th.
Also, as of September 2011, businesses are leaving the center like rats from a sinking ship. PetSmart and Michaels both relocated to West Covina. The only “new” business is Lowe’s replaced Home Depot with the last year.
I remember going to the Sears with my parents when I was young, back before all the Sears and JCPenny’s attached themselves to malls. I can still smell the popcorn and rubber. They had a popcorn/candy counter in the Sears near the tires and Craftsmen tools department.
On the north side of the theater (west side of Azusa Ave,) there was a Marie Callender’s, with the original architecture style of the Marie’s. I remember frequenting this Marie Callender’s when I was young and it didn’t have indoor restrooms. You had to go outside and they were located on the side of the buildings. This was the early 80s. I also remember at this time, that my parents stopped frequenting this theater for awhile. It was due to reports of two young children being abducted from the theater.

Does anyone else wish that movie theaters still had crying rooms, along with cell phone user’s rooms, smuggled in smelly and/or loud outdoor food rooms, etc? I could go on and on!

The site is a Fresh & Easy and has been for sometime (at least one year), but the Fresh & Easy store has yet to open as of September 2011.
