CHI74 are you talking about the Mercury which would have been on North Avenue just west of Harlem. It was multi-screen at the end. The only other one which comes to mind is the MontClair which was on Grand one block east of Harlem and that was a single screen till the end, but I’m sure closed through the entire 1990’s.
Where was the Yankee Doodle Dandy? I remember one being on Northwest Highway but I may be mistaken.
My only memories of this Drive in was the Flea Market my Dad would drag me to early on Sunday Mornings and when they tore it down for the Norridge Commons.
The Pioneer Press ran a nice article about what is going on with the Des Plaines Theatre. The link below is to the article and has a picture of the theatre today.
The Milford theatre is fondly mentioned in the book “Lords of Lawndale”, written by a local gang member. His description of the theatre is very similar to how I will always remember it.
The only theatre which I know that existed on Belmont between Austin and Central was the Will Rogers, which was at the corner of Belmont and Parkside.
The Will Rogers was the theatre which would have shown the Laurel and Hardy films. It always mostly Disney films, but from time to time would show moves by people like Chaplin and Laural and Hardy.
I was recently at the Pickwick and saw they are doing renovation to the inside. When I asked what it was, I was told the were restoring the Crown Molding.

Has anyone heard the rumor that this theatre is being closed to make room for a Big Box store?
I have noticed for the last few months the Marquee on Harlem Avenue hasn’t been listing the movies but the theatre has remained open.

I would never guess this was a movie theatre. The building has been the home of the Chicagoland Canoe Base for as long as I can remember.
This theatre would have been across the street from the old Dunning Sanitarium which would have been open during the entire existance of the theatre.

I’m glad to see someone is making use of the Skokie theatre. It was always small but it was a nice theatre in a nice location.
