This small movie house opened during the silent movie era, and operated until around the 1940’s or 1950’s. It was located on N. Narragansett Avenue, near the intersection of W. Irving Park Road in the Dunning neighborhood. The building was used for retail until it was demolished in June 2017.

I would never guess this was a movie theatre. The building has been the home of the Chicagoland Canoe Base for as long as I can remember.
This theatre would have been across the street from the old Dunning Sanitarium which would have been open during the entire existance of the theatre.
Evidence seems to suggest that the current building was built around 1955. This could be inaccurate, but the Pioneer is missing from 1950 and 1941 Sanborn insurance maps.
I will stop in at Canoe Base and speak with the owner about this topic. Ralph is a good guy to know.
Status should be changed to “Demolished”.
It was torn down this week.
