It took me all day of pulling my hair out with my phone and computer to get tickets to Avengers in Imax on Thursday April 25th. Does anyone know why most showings of Avengers are in 2D but for some reason they show it in Imax 3D for the 2:30p showings only? Why is it more and more big blockbusters are shown in Imax 2D only and no Imax 3D?
I was surprised when I showed up to see Justice League on Saturday that it wasn’t in 3D. Does anyone know why Justice League wasn’t in 3D Imax? More importantly, can anyone confirm that Last Jedi will indeed be in 3D? I’ve had my tickets purchased on the first day they were available.
Alpine, go have a cup of warm milk and go to sleep. I’ve been going to the most aggressive presentations of movies ever for many years. Do your research on damaging decibel levels, and compare it to what you experience in an Imax theater. Attending one single rock concert without ear plugs can do far more damage than seeing 100 Imax movies. I’m sure you can find a second rate theater with an out-dated sound system that won’t aggravate your overly sensitive hearing.
Contact your local theater to see when they have “Mom and Baby day.” It’s a day that they turn down the sound levels, squelch the dynamic range, and lower the projector’s brightness so Mom can watch a movie while baby sleeps. That might do the trick for all you cry babies whining dynamic audio being too loud. Wahh Wahhhh Wahhhh!!! :(
OMG please. Enough with the moaning about it being too loud. Hopefully nobody will listen and the IMAX people still continue to give us aggressive and thunderous audio. You experience more damaging decibel levels taking the subway every day than you do seeing movies in an IMAX theater.
I was dissapointed with the opening as well @bigjoe59. Maybe that is just the US numbers and this will do better in European markets. At least I hope so.
I disagree completely @alpinedweller. The volume levels are carefully tested to meet imax standards. IMAX is designed to give the ultimate audio/video experience. Keep the volume where it is! Looking at decibel levels you hear more damaging sound by having a firetruck drive by or have to listen to busses drive by at close distances. If IMAX is too loud there are plenty of theatres that have “Mom and baby day” where they squelch the dynamic range and lower the volume so baby can sleep. Someone who wants the ultimate audio/video experience couldn’t tolerate “Mom and Baby day.” however if IMAX is too loud that might be a good option. ;)

So the Imax theater is going to the old 70mm projector and not using the new laser one? I saw the preview when I saw Rogue One and it was amazing! I was so excited to see Dunkirk at the Imax at LS.

Hey, are there matinee’s in the Lincoln Square Imax?!?! I want to take my Son to a matinee on Monday to see the Mummy but the earliest show is at 5:15.
Wonder Woman looked awesome! The visuals were excellent. There were some great scenes. The 3D was solid but little or no pop out effects. My big complaint was that they ran out of 3D glasses and I missed a couple trailers while I had to wait for them to get boxes of new glasses. smh. Lincoln Square Imax is still the best experience I know of and yes I have been to the dolby theaters. Imax is KING!
I saw Wonder Woman in the Imax and was very impressed. The earlier issues from the theater are gone. The Dunkirk footage was once again displayed in full laser Imax and it was insane! The tremendous picture and the earth shattering audio was unreal. I’m seeing The Mummy on Monday but I can’t wait for Dunkirk!
I get that Mike but Logan and Kong only get a week in the biggest Imax in the northeast? That’s retarted! I have to put Imax and the studios to blame in part as well.
Ugh! There’s to many Imax movies this year. I missed out on seeing Logan in Imax after only a week of being released?!?! Then again 1 week later, after only a week of being released, they bounce Kong for Beauty and the Beast?!?! Good grief!!! How many times can people see the same silly story!?!?!
I saw Rogue One on Fri at 6PM. This has become a Christmas tradition for my family. I thought the Dunkirk preview was unreal! Idk if it was laser or not but it filled the entire screen and it was incredible! I’m very excited to see that when it comes out. I absolutely Loved Rogue one and I really thought the new laser projection was a definite improvement on what was there before. Seeing Vader again was just unreal! Don’t worry, no spoilers here! lol. The seating was nice and comfy and a vast improvement on the old seating. I agree with what was said about the bathroom and the carpeting but I think the overall renovation was really awesome! I love the new screens on outside the theater and the Imax signs look epic! I’m super happy about my favorite Imax theater, and will be seeing Rogue One again at 1230 with my family. Can’t wait!!!
I’ve wondered the same between dolby vs Imax until I saw dolby after seeing IMAX for a long time. I think this article was the best thing I’ve read about it.
Now that I’ve experienced Dolby after seeing IMAX for years, I prefer IMAX in a real IMAX theater like Lincoln Square. I prefer the huge screen and the thunderous sound. Dolby is real impressive and the ATMOS is really impressive, but I just prefer IMAX. However, compared to small Imax digital theaters, I would say that Dolby is better. The ATMOS and the plush seating is really awesome! If the smaller IMAX theaters put in plush seating like DOLBY, it would basically be a wash. That’s just my experience.

I am confused with some of the posts above. What is the reason Avengers won’t be displayed in 3D Imax in the LS Imax?
