Roxy Theatre
In 1922 local cricketer/publican [Samuel] Harry Williams purchased a timber yard at what is now 288 Macquarie Road, and built a new amusement hall (rather than an open-air operation originally proposed, but objected to by residents). Licensed on 5th January 1923 for 450 persons, the cinema opened on Saturday 27th January 1923 with “Peck’s Bad Boy” and “Man Woman Marriage”. This second Springwood Hall was initially operated by Williams in partnership with A. G. Jones, with screenings Wednesday and Saturday nights.
