The first pictures were screened at the Arcadia Picture Palace on Saturday 23rd January 1915. On the following Thursday, seats were cleared away for roller skating - a very popular pastime of the period. The hall would also be used over the years for meetings, boxing matches, concerts, balls, flower shows, wedding receptions – in fact, all manner of public indoor gatherings.
