Todays photos are of the fire that took place at The Electric/Fox Theater on December 9th 1947 ~ Now History Museum on the Square
The fire started in a lean-to at the back of the building and it was thought that the fire was out. Later ushers inside the theater noticed sparks coming from the roof before it collapsed in flames. It was reopened as the Fox Theatre which closed as a movie house in 1982.
Photo 1) We are on Olive looking towards Boonville and back of the theater. The building in front of us is home to the The Riksha.
Additional history credit Richard Crabtree. “The worse fire occured 36 years prior in 1913 when Heers was located in this corner and most everything burned from Boonville to St. Louis Street.”
