At right, we see the former South Park station on the Kenwood “L”. By September 5, 1960, when William C. Hoffman took this picture, the tracks and bridge here had already been removed. At left, the Chicago Junction Railway was still in operation. South Park was later renamed Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. North of the viaduct, the Park Theatre, which closed in 1958, was being used as a church. The building still exists. There are plans to turn much of the former Kenwood “L” right-of-way into a south side equivalent of the 606 Trail.
