
Albany Pussy Galore Cinema 230 Collins Street, Melbourne, VIC - 1979

The Albany Cinema, Collins Street Melbourne, was for many years a Newsreel Theatrette. This continued until news became instantly available on television. A policy change saw a diet of exploitation product and simultaneous Drive-in releases, until it was earmarked for closure in the late 60’s. The theatre was saved by entrepreneur & cinema owner “Ken Hill” from the Shaft Cinema Group. December 1979 and “The Australasian Cinema” industry magazine, announces a change of policy to Erotic Content, and a name change to “Albany Pussy Galore Cinema – Pussy Galore is a fictional character in the 1959 Ian Fleming James Bond novel Goldfinger and the 1964 film of the same name. In the film, she is played by Honor Blackman – The Albany Pussy Galore Cinema closed in June 1989, and was converted to retail use - Contributed by Greg Lynch –
