Sept 1940 and Northern Theatres P/L now control the Palace theatre. An extensive remodeling of the Palace begins at a cost of £6000 The theatre was officially re-opened by the Mayor (Ald. W.A. Collins), who congratulated the Northern Theatres Pty. Ltd., for their courage in undertaking the re-modernization of the theatre, it proves, he added, that the company has confidence In the future. Mr B. J. Hogan, (Chairman of Director!) responded, and he paid a tribute to the workers engaged In the modernization of the theatre.

One of the features is the lighting arrangement*. All the main lights in the theatre have been concealed, and the enclosures have been arranged in a colour scheme of blue and green. The latest Western Electric equipment is being installed by Mr. M. Hoad, in fact the first of its kind to be installed in Queensland. The Grand re-opening was on Sept 4, 1940.
